In the introduction of the song, Andy expresses his feelings towards what happens when death approaches. The end is symbolic to the end of life and the word night is symbolic to death. “Who will tell the story of your life?” is a rhetorical question in which he is reflecting on life and is questioning if anyone will remember him. Suicidal people often reflect on their lives right before they end it and think if it was even worth living.

In verse 2, Andy is reconciling all the ‘unholy’ or unmoral doings in his life, and he’s looking back and wondering what he could’ve fixed or done better. Depressed teens often think that everything they do in life is unmoral, and that often causes the downwind spiral of depression and loneliness.
The structure of “In the end” isn’t set out in poem form, eg. AB AB or AA BB. The song is set out in a typical song format with an introduction, verse 1 and 2 and choruses that are placed after the first and second verse, and at the end of the song.
