Animal Rights - 13
Animal Rights

"Isn't man an amazing animal? He kills wildlife--birds, kangaroos, deer, all kinds of cats, coyotes, groundhogs, mice, foxes and dingoes--by the million in order to protect his domestic animals and their feed. Then he kills domestic animals by the billion and eats them. This in turn kills man by the million, because eating all those animals leads to degenerative--and fatal--health conditions like heart disease, kidney disease, and cancer. So then man tortures and kills millions more animals to look for cures for these diseases. Elsewhere, millions of other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals. Meanwhile, some people are dying of sad laughter at the absurdity of man, who kills so easily and so violently, and once a year sends out cards praying for Peace on
Earth." (Coats, 13)

We need to realize, that in today's society, animals deserve just as much freedom as humans have. Although we are larger in size, we are not superior in status. Animals have been around on the earth for as long as humans, if not longer. Animals play an important role in today's society whether or not we choose to admit it. Like a newborn baby learning to play with others we must learn to share the planet with animals. One of the main issues being disputed today with animal right, is
SUPERIORITY. Over 7 Billion animals die at the hands of humans, in the US, every year. Out of those 7 Billion animals, about 95% of them are killed for uses as food. Advocates for animal rights justify their research by presenting the obvious differences that exist between humans and animals. These include size, status, strength, and ability. Sometimes, one who is against animal rights will take the attitude that "God gave them [animals] to us to use." What these researchers fail to recognize is PAIN. All creatures are capable of feeling pain. If a creature is capable of experiencing the pain

Animals from creation have been an essential integral part of human beings. They have frequently been, either directly or indirectly, used by humans to achieve their needs. Hence they are important part and great asset to humans. These animals do have lives different from that of humans and equally have some similar characteristics with humans like emotional feelings. This very fact puts humans in a difficult position of determining the amount of respect and regard that should be accorded to the animals. Some people agitate that animals should be granted same equal rights as human beings. Inasmuch as I quite agree that animals should be granted some rights in order to be free from cruel treatments by humans, the issue of granting them equal full rights as enjoyed by humans should not come up. An objective review of such factors as tradition, cultural believes, religious, socio-economic, and medical as well as salient natural features that distinguish animals from humans like morality, and ability to…

In May of 2015 the latest Gallup poll readings stated that 62% of Americans think animals should have some basic protection but still be able to be used for the benefit of humans; in retrospect, 32% of people thought animals should have the same rights as people, while 3% didn’t think animals needed any protection at all. With numbers like these an organization called the Animal Legal Defense Fund has written up a bill that calls for protection of the rights of animals, but is this really necessary?…

There is a widespread belief that mankind is a “wreath of nature”. This perception usually makes people feel themselves extraordinary and lets them believe that everything is created for their own pleasure and convenience. From the pedestal on which they stand, people look at the speechless animals as inferior beings that cannot experience the same emotions as humans do. People often kill animals not only for food but also for their own enjoyment and fun. Take circuses for example, where animals are locked in cages with the single purpose being shown. Many animals, on the other hand, are used for medical and cosmetic experimentations which usually result in fatalities.…

After the liberation of slaves and then women, now the lights are being shed upon the subject of animal rights for public discussion. As the world population grew, so did the demand for animals. However, not all animals get the same treatment from humans. Some animals are caressed with love and care by their owners during their entire lives, while some others are kept in tiny cubicles where they do not even have enough space to turn around, only to be slaughtered for food after a few months, and still others get tested for lethal dosage of drugs and get vivisected without any anesthesia. The situation begs the important question. Should animals have rights? In this essay, it will be argued that they should not because first, they lack the ability to deliver their duty, and second, if they have rights, the human society could suffer greatly. After the two main points, Klein’s refutation to Singer’s marginal humans argument will be presented.…

<br>Animal rights is a catchphrase akin to human rights. It involves, however, a few pitfalls. First, animals exist only as a concept. Otherwise, they are cuddly cats, curly dogs, cute monkeys. A rat and a puppy are both animals but our emotional reaction to them is so different that we cannot really lump them together. Moreover: what rights are we talking about? The right to life? The right to be free of pain? The right to food? Except the right to free speech – all the other rights could be relevant to animals.…
