Animal testing has been used a lot throughout the years and now it is time to make a change. Animal testing has caused harm and death to over 100 million innocent animals per year for the sake of human progress. Today there are many alternatives for animal testing that scientist can use in experiments instead of animals. These alternatives are more efficient, less expensive, and do not cause harm to any living being. Instead of introducing animals to malignant diseases, and killing them for research, we can use alternatives that will help fight disease that affects people. The alternatives are highly efficient because they are able to mimic the physiological state of the human body. This is very significant change in producing successful results
because when animals are used, scientist are experimenting with beings that have different anatomical structures. If the physiological state of an animal is different from those of a human, the results will be unsuccessful towards helping people because differences in DNA, metabolism, chemical absorbtion capacity, etc., vary from one species to another. A total of 12-15 billion dollars, taxpayer money, are spent annually on animal experimentation. Instead of spending money on torturing animals, it should be spent on things that are more beneficial to people. The money that is now being spent on animal testing could potentially be spent on schools where education is low, homes for those who are financially insecure, and people who are food insecure. Animals can’t speak up for themselves, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t have any rights. People have no right to take a life that does not belong to them. To harm a living being without their consent is to violate their rights.
