The Diary of Anne Frank
In The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne illustrates how the human spirit can be resilient even in the darkest of times and still find faith in humanity. The Diary of Anne Frank takes place during World War II in the Netherlands. Anne Frank was a teenager around the age of 13-15 who suffered during Hitler’s rule over Germany because she was a Jew. Hitler was trying to eliminate all the Jews by putting them in concentration camps, denying them the right to work, and killing any of them who did not look like the Germans. This caused many Jews to go into hiding, including Anne Frank, her family, and some friends. During their time in hiding there were many opportunities for Anne to lose hope in humanity however, she was able to remain hopeful that people were good at heart. One example of a person that gave Anne hope in humanity was Miep and her courage that she displayed. Hiding the Jews was extremely dangerous and risky, and if caught was punishable by death. However, Miep took Anne Frank and her family in. Hiding and taking care of eight people was dangerous and exhausting work. Miep did not have enough money to buy eight people food, so she got illegal coupons to get food. She had to find a new supplier when her old one got caught by the green police. The green police were Nazi officers that searched houses for Jews and investigated illegal sellers of coupons, food rations or hiders of the Jews. So for someone of an un-persecuted race to hide them took amazing courage and showed Anne that people could choose to stand up for what is right. Anne Frank from the age of 13 lived in fear of being discovered by the Nazis. When the workers were in the office down stairs they were not able to use running water, the toilet, or walk around during the hours of 8am to 6pm. If they were to walk around during those hours, they would alert the workers to their presence. The fact
