Anne Frank After May 1940 Essay
War struck Europe because of a man with an ideal of erasing a type of a religious race. Jewish people. On May 10, 1940, the German Army invaded the Netherlands, defeating Dutch forces in just a few days. The Dutch surrendered on May 15, 1940. As the war roared on, a Jewish girl named Anne Frank made her first account on this in her diary on May 1940. According to Biography.com Anne states in her diary “After May 1940, the good times were few and far between; first there was the war, then the capitulation and then the arrival of the Germans, which is when the troubles started for the jews.”(Biography. com/Anne Frank/) One of her quotes in her first entry, according to an article called ’Museum Hours’ on the website Holocaustedu.org is “I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support.”(Holocaustedu.org) This quote is a powerful quote because she wanted this to bring hope to others. Telling them that to not lose faith, not lose your heart and soul just because everything in their world may seem to be corrupt. On July 6, 1942 her and her family went into hiding. With the help of Miep Gies and Bep Voskuijl. Later on, the Van Pels came to join them in the secret. Anne Frank wasn’t really happy about the idea once she sees the annex. She talks about Peter Van Pel a lot in her diary. She has described him quiet and shy. Yet was later very fond of Peter. Soon, after 2 years, in 1944 the family has been discovered. No one knows who has told the “Green Police” but there are ideas. Such as the thief that came into the warehouse or Willem Van Maaren. Anne has written about him in her diary, saying how the men in(of) the Secret Annex deliberate over him. According to The Secret Annex Online, Anne says about Willem “Kleiman, who has been here in the meantime, Kugler and the two men have been looking into the question of how to get this fellow out of the place from every possible angle. Downstairs they think it is too risky. But isn’t it even riskier to leave things as they are?”(The Secret Annex Online. Anne died, so did her sister, Margot. Miep and Bep have been sent to prison too.

Frank and Margot and Anne Frank has managed to stay together but Margot and Anne was then sent to a different camp. The camp Bergen-Belsen and died there from the disease called Typhus. Margot died first near the date of her birthday, where she would’ve turned 19. Anne died shortly after her at the age of 15. Otto Frank was the sole survivor when the war ended. He asked around about his daughters and gladly people did recall seeing her but they told him that they haven’t seen them for a while and that was when Otto knew the they were dead.
People remembered Anne as the little girl with pride and hope.
Otto then found Anne’s diary and read it. Then on June 25, 1947, Anne Frank’s Diary was published. Thanks to Otto Frank. He has made his daughter, Anne, a legacy and the Holocaust to be something to remembered. Over the years he has made books about the experience in the secret annex in result of being the sole survivor of the Jews that hid in the
annex.
