Anne Frank Thesis

Anne Frank has had many experiences in the Annexe. She has made many new friends, and enemies. Even though she may feel like the Annexe is a great home, she has still been sad in a way. She feels as if she doesn’t have the greatest living situation, but she is living better than most Jewish kids. In the story, Anne talks about how she feels during the time she is in the Annexe, and also what she compares her living environment to. Throughout the story, Anne describes her time in the Annexe, how she feels about what is going on around her, and what she thinks of the people around her. First, in the story the author states, “I see the eight of us with our “Secret Annexe” as if we were a little piece of blue heaven...” (Frank 115). In the text it states, “The round, clearly defined spot where we stand is still safe, but the clouds gather more closely… approaching danger closes more and more tightly” (Frank 115). This quote shows that as Anne explains that the people in the Annexe are in heaven, that they are also surrounded by “black rain clouds”. In this story the “black rain clouds” represent all of the problems that are surrounding the people in the Annexe. Problems like war and Jewish extermination are the things that Anne could be talking about. Also, Anne feels that these clouds are gathering more closely around them because she feels that if all her friends are being taken away from their homes, that it is only a matter of time before someone finds her family and they are taken away.
