Anne Hope Jahren was born in Austin, Minnesota on September 27, 1969. Hope grew up with a college physics and Earth science teacher as a father, and spent most of her free time in his laboratory. With three older brothers at home, this felt like her own space to do what she wanted to do.
As an American Geochemist and geobiologist at the University of Oslo, Hope has founded her own labratory.
Jahren completed her undergraduate education in geology at the University of Minnesota in 1991. Since then, Jahren has received three Fulbright Awards, the Donath Medal, the Macelwane Medal, and a feature in Popular Science as one of their “Brilliant 10” people.
