49ers Colin Kaepernick began to kneel or refusing to stand during the national anthem due to the Racial Inequality and violence against blacks. Many think it is wrong for athletes to use their status to protest ideas and such. Athletes actually should sue their status for the greater good of America in a Positive way instead of a negative way like Colin did. Athletes need to use their status to make an impact and show that even the most famous people care. First of all, Kaepernick is not the only one to take a stand. In one of the Articles given, a piece of information was stated and here I quote, “At a sports award show, basketball stars Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul took the stage and talked about the issues in the world, as a Country we are having. This shows that there is more people out there that think the same, so we should fix it. In addition, Athletes weren’t always cheated good after they took a stand. In one of the articles, a piece of information also stated, “Smith and Carlos were stripped of their Olympic Medals, Muhammad Ali was banished from boxing for years for refusing to fight in the Vietnam war.”. It is wrong for them to be punished if they were really trying to help this country solve our problems. One more thing, Athletes didn’t always agree with each other. Luther King Jr. was assassinated. The next morning, Gibson, who is black, got into a heated conversation about racial equality with his catcher, Tim McCarver, who is white. This shows things got really bad back, many think it is coming back and Athletes need to help like they did back then. Athletes should be able to voice their ideas and opinions, without controversy. Many think that the athletes shouldn’t be able to voice their opinion because of their status.
“Kaepernick to be most disliked player.” “Kaepernick’s position is more high-profile though and his actions have sparked protests everywhere.” However, this is wrong because if an athlete can do some good with his status, do it! Many believe that it isn’t right but it is, they are trying to help our country. I’m not saying I agree with Colin’s methods because I don’t but that doesn’t mean that everyone won’t do it better. Many athletes have helped this country with their status, they should keep doing
it.
Athletes should be able to use their status on world problems, but it matters on what it is. Hopefully, we as Americans can conquer ideas and problems together. One day, maybe we won’t need Athletes to do it for us!
