Ap English Reflection Paper
It is getting close to that time when we begin to fill the AP English roster for next year. This year, we will not be testing in for the course, rather we will be relying upon a student's past performance in ELA, the overall GPA, and also previous teacher recommendations. I have just received the list of students who requested AP Literature for the 2017-18 school year, and I am forwarding this list to you to see if there are any students that you recognize on this list who absolutely do not have the skills or acumen for the rigors of the course. The counselors are checking on the GPA status of these students, but I would also like to know from your classroom experience with any of these people if there is anyone on this list that should

The theme of the story “A&P” is “always weigh your consequences before taking actions”. The formal aspects used by the author to develop the story were symbolism, point of view, and setting. A&P written by John Updike first published in 1961 is about, the narrator, Sammy who is checking groceries when he realizes that three barefoot girls in bathing suits have walked into the store. The leader of the three, who has her bathing suit straps down, catches his eye. She walks like a queen (of which he nicknames “Queenie”) through the store, never turning to look at him or his coworker, Stokesie.…

The assertions made by Lewis Lapham’s Money and Class in America distinguishes the meaning of success and the requirements for respect from Americans to that of other strong societies. In his essay he defends that Americans show respect for those with a high economic status while other nations feel art and intellect are warrant for respect. With this, he agrees with Henry Adams that Americans are greatly materialistic in the sense that they try to find “success” in wealth because they have been “deflected by the pursuit of money”. Though the idea that Americans favor and respect a high economic status is true, Lapham’s claim that they do so because they are socially forced to is not accurate because they still have the ability to make a choice.…

When this project was assigned to me, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Just six weeks ago, the words “nonfiction” created an image of boredom in my mind. I didn’t realize how many great pieces of nonfiction literature there were, and how much would enjoy it. Not only did I read many great pieces of writing, but I also learned a lot about myself as a person and a reader. In future years, this project should definitely be assigned to honors freshmen. One reason this project should be assigned to freshmen in the future is to enjoy independent reading again. School work and sports take up so much of my free time, that I rarely ever have time to relax and free read. If I have any free time during the school week, it’s usually for small windows of time, and I usually head straight towards my smart phone or Macbook. This project allows you to enjoy reading interesting articles and stories, and lets you make better use of your free time. Reading is a pleasure of mine, and without this project, I would’ve never been given the opportunity to enjoy reading during this stressful time. Students should all be able to read when they want to, and although homework takes that away, it’s important that teachers build in some structured time to do so. Another reason why this project should be assigned in the future, is that it teaches you a lot of new, interesting things. The beauty of this assignment is that you can choose to…
