Colombian Exchange: Very similar to Triangular Trade, the Colombian Exchange was a trade route facilitated for a majority by Europeans that traded Food, animals, ideas, weapons, plants, slaves, and among other things, diseases.
Nation-States: A nation or state unified by one common entity or idea, most commonly a government but also apart from politics, race, language, ancestry or culture.
Protestant Reformation: The break in religion between Europe and England as prompted by Henry the VIII created The Church of England (Similar to the Episcopal Church). This delayed England’s movement into America and the New World but also ignited interest when it happened. The teachings of protestant theologians such as Martin Luther and John Calvin permanently ruined Europe’s religious unity.
Amerigo Vespucci: An Italian Explorer that discovered that the new world was in fact not Asia but an entirely different landmass under contract from Portugal. The name America is generally accredited to Amerigo Vespucci.
Treaty of Tordesillas: A line drawn north to south 270 leagues west of Azones, which divided the world into ownership between Portugal and Spain. Each new land found west of this line belonged to Spain and each new piece of land found east to Portugal. However; this treaty did not stop other European entities from stopping their own exploration to the new world.
Asiento System: Shortly after the Spanish government unified Spain, the Asiento system was implemented in order to keep better control of the new colony. It allowed other countries to sell human slaves to the Spanish colonies.

Joint Stock Company: Business in which many people were able to invest in order to assist in England’s colonization of the new world. Joint-Stock ventures became very popular, as they were thought to have no risk of going bankrupt.
