What is a worldview?

Dr. Caner & Hinson state, a worldview can be described as “the frameworks or

beliefs which a person view the world around around him”. (Caner & Hindson 2008, p

A world view can also be a persons philosophy of life. It is like a filter or lens from

which we see the world around us and what it represents. “Do to others as you would

have them do to you” often referred to as the golden rule is an example of a biblical

worldview that has also accepted by twelve other religions as well many secularists.

The Biblical/Christian worldview

The Question of Origin-

Christians believe that everything that exists is the result of God. God is our

Creator. Genesis 1:1 supports this belief. David also declares that God is his creator in

Psalms 139:13. Most Christian churches also believe in the trinity or that God is triune

and all three Persons of the Godhead were involved in creating the universe and

mankind.

The Question of Identity-

Christians believe that Man and Woman were created “in the image of God”

Genesis 1:17. Mankind is to rule over the animals and be their caretakers according to

Genesis 2:15. With this worldview in mind we are responsible for taking care of God’s

creation and being good stewards of His provision of natural resources.

The Question of Meaning/Purpose-

The purpose of the Christian walk is knowing God and having a personal

relationship with Jesus Christ. Luke 10:27 instructs us as believers on how we are to

love the Lord as well as others. The purpose of mankind and salvation are explained in

John 17:3. It is made evident throughout the New Testament that Jesus desires to be in

fellowship with us as we walk with him on this side of eternity.

The Question of Morality/Ethics-

Christians’ morals and ethics

Many different religions have many different answers and each one believes it is right. However, the bibles tells us in John 14:6 that the truth is personified in Jesus Christ. We have to have a personal relationship with Jesus to reap the rewards of eternal life. Our purpose in life is to glorify God in everything we do and to believe in Him. We need to use the word of God to bring others to him and to help them come closer to God. If his people can humble themselves, pray, and seek God while turning from their wicked ways, then God will hear them and forgive their sin (2 Chronicles 7:14). This is all God wants for us; he wants us to have eternal life through Him, the creator of all…

    3. The Question of Meaning/Purpose - John 17:3 provides a simple explanation of what it means to know God. In Luke 12:15-21, it is stated that one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions. The bible speaks on God as “God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirt” but is underlined as One God. “God said let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepth upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:26) God is said to be a triune or trinity God. The bible also reveals that God is three persons with the same amount of deity. God created the whole word and he created Adam from the ground and he…

While worldview may have many definitions, boiling it down to a simple concept would be to define it as the way an individual interprets the world. Consequently, an individual’s worldview would be affected by culture, religion, and education, to name a base. Worldview may also be considered how an entire society interprets the world. In essence, a worldview encompasses the entirety of a person’s, or society’s knowledge and point of view. Understanding individuals’ differing worldviews is essential to learning developmental psychology. As each human is inherently unique, understanding how their worldview affects their behavior is critical. Additionally, it is important to understand what molds their worldview. Throughout the study of developmental psychology, numerous different theories have been produced on the reasoning of why people change when they grow older. Indubitably, worldview and…

Throughout the text of Genesis, and especially evident in Chapter 3, there is a system which God has set up to indicate the proper relationships of his creations between each other and with him. An analysis of this reoccurring theme will help to establish that God 's intended system is a hierarchy in which there is an assigning of "followers" and "masters," with God having the final hierarchy. This motif was first introduced in chapter 1 of Genesis where God sees that his creations are "good," already establishing a higher standard for them. In the system that follows, the hierarchy is with God as the creator; then humans as followers to God.…
