Worldview Assignment
I. Originally referred to as Weltanschauung, the term “worldview” is defined as the framework of beliefs by which a person views the world around them (Hindson & Caner, 2008). An individual’s life experiences, what they’ve seen, heard, and learned over their lifetime builds their worldview. When a person understands this term, then they can better understand others. There are several questions that need to be asked, like what is origin, identity, meaning/purpose, morality, and destiny before a person can understand a worldview. Each of these questions better explains a person’s belief in God.
II.
The answers to the question of origin can be found in Genesis 1:1. Christians believe that God created the heavens and the Earth from nothing. He spoke the world into existence and made man from the dust of the ground. Genesis 1:28 tells us how God made one man and one woman from which the entire Earth’s population has descended from. The Christian worldview of our identities is that we are all unique and intentional creations of God and that we were made in his image (Genesis 1:27). In Psalms 8:5, God tells us that mankind was made above the animals. God intended us to …show more content…
care for the animals and plants, and to use them both as a source for food. The question of meaning/purpose seeks answers for why we exist.
Many different religions have many different answers and each one believes it is right. However, the bibles tells us in John 14:6 that the truth is personified in Jesus Christ. We have to have a personal relationship with Jesus to reap the rewards of eternal life. Our purpose in life is to glorify God in everything we do and to believe in Him. We need to use the word of God to bring others to him and to help them come closer to God. If his people can humble themselves, pray, and seek God while turning from their wicked ways, then God will hear them and forgive their sin (2 Chronicles 7:14). This is all God wants for us; he wants us to have eternal life through Him, the creator of all
existence. The question of morality asks what is meant by right or wrong. Exodus 20:1-17 tells us of the 10 commandments given to Moses on Mt. Sinai. In those commandments, God gave us a set of laws to live by. Each commandment tells us what is acceptable by God and what is not. Once Eve defiled God and took the forbidden fruit, mankind was subjected to sin. Man chose to turn from God and invite sin. Mark 7:20-23 tells us that what comes out of us defiles us. What comes out of the heart of man is evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these evil things come from inside man and they defile him. The only way to be forgiven is to accept Jesus and live by his commandments. The question of destiny seeks the answers to what will happen when we die. God tell us that all the souls are His, the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son are His and that the soul who sins shall die (Ezekiel 18:4). He is letting us know that if you sin you shall die, but if you are forgiven and live the path of God then you will live forever in heaven. God confirms this in John 5:24 when he tells us that whoever hears his word and believes in Him who sent Jesus will have eternal life. God wants us to be with him in heaven for all eternity!
III.
A biblical worldview should influence everything you do, from the way you interact with the environment and non-human creation to voting in local or national elections. God made all of existence and you should respect and love all of his creations as we have been commanded to do. As I explained earlier, we were put here to care for the animals and to use them for food. From a biblical perspective, this makes killing for fun and animal abuse sins. When we as Christians vote, we are electing people to lead us at various levels. We need to be mindful of these people and what their worldviews are before making these important decisions. We need to pray for these leaders and seek to filter all of their speech through the word of God to determine who is best fit to lead us toward God.
