Applegate Preschool Observation Essay

On 16th October I visited the Applegate preschool. It is a private non-profit program. I observe the kids from 1 to 2’o clock. They follow lots of different theories but mostly their curriculum is play based developmentally appropriate. The head teacher has a bachelor degree in Human development, she has been working there for nine years. The other teacher have also bachelor degree and one teacher have 24ECE units and one teacher has 12ECE units. It is a full day program, morning and afternoon classes. I observe in the afternoon class. In the class they have four teacher, two for inside and two for outside. They have 28 kids enrolled in the class and the adult to child ratio is one adult to six or eight kids.
Upon arriving at Applegate preschool I feel very happy to see the kids joyfully running around, because they just arrive with their parents. The teachers are very friendly and welcoming the children with love and care. When I went in I saw the room was brightly colored, the room was brightened because of natural lighting coming through so many windows.
They were teaching the kids how to respect each other and be friends. While dealing with the children the teachers were talking in a soft voice, while talking to them either they were sitting next to them or bent down while talking. The kids are so well behaved, nobody did any mischief to be disciplined. I saw the kids were very sociable and friendly. The boys and girls were playing together, for ex- they were pretending the small house to be a ship and one person was a captain, and the others were sitting as a passenger. All of a sudden a Strom came in the sea and they tried to shake the house as if in the ocean the waves making the ship to shake. I saw there was an old truck made of wood and so many boys and girls were playing in that pretending to be a fire
