Appreciation is an emotion that is not always displayed when necessary. People seldom show how much they appreciate ones words or action. When you appreciate something you show your gratitude in word form such as thank you or maybe even in the form of some type of gift or card. There are many ways to say you appreciate something or someone but for some reason in our society appreciation isn't shown as much as it should be. People seem to take peoples kindness as a given instead of something they should be thankful for. Even small gestures such as holding the door for the person behind you should be thanked. It seems like a small deed but did that person really have to hold the door for you? They did not, so shouldn't you therefore take the time to say thank you? Yes you should. Personally appreciation should be shown the most not to complete strangers, but the people you surround yourself with on a daily basis, such as loved ones, family and friends. The knowledge you gain from an experience and the understanding you begin to have from that experience is an appreciation. When you are taught a subject such as fine arts eventually you begin to comprehend and come to know something more about them, which means you now have an appreciation of the fine arts. This appreciation is more of thankfulness for gaining knowledge instead of thankfulness to one person for a deed they have done.
