Belonging is a sense of enlightenment felt when an individual gains an understanding of themselves in relation to others and the wider world. This is just one idea presented about belonging, however there are many different ways to belong and there can be barriers that prevent people from belonging. These ideas of belonging are explored throughout the short story “Neighbours” by Tim Winton and Peter Skyzneckic’s “Immigrant Chronicles”. “Immigrant chronicles” is a collection of poems that demonstrates the hardships experienced by migrants as a result of dislocation, alienation, discrimination and prejudice. The “Immigrant Chronicles” demonstrate how there are a variety of ideas about belonging and how people can gain a sense of belonging through shared experiences, relationships with others, being accepted within a society, and through an understanding of different cultures.…

The main point of this essay is to show the variety of aspects in success in the American culture. This essay was meant to emphasize that although success does have a definition; it is based on how people view success, and on how they determine a person successful. In this paper, I explored educational, political, and financial success, and incorporated which one was determined as the most important by many of my peers, as well as adults, both male and female. In my personal research on January 29, 2013, it has been determined that many people believe that others in our society are successful, according to their finances.…

As a student, it is a great honor to be just nominated as candidate for National Honor society. It shows me that I have been working hard to stand out more than others. Throughout my high school career, I want to be one of the top and I have been trying to reach that goal. I have chosen to take all honor classes to help me get there. I also show traits that could make me a good leader. I was also elected to go to the North Suburban Leadership Conference. I like to go out and meet new people, and I think NHS is a good place to explore and meet new people. I also like to volunteer and help people do things that need to be done. I help out in the garden here at the high school in the summer, help set up chairs and tables for community day, and I also help the youth football team with the “chain gang” during their football season. I also help at my church clothes donations to the less fortunate people. I feel NHS would make me stay more focus on what I need to do and also teach me more responsibility. Being in NHS would make me be an example which would hold me to act with higher standards than other students. It seems like when you’re in NHS you travel and meet more people, and I like to take those types of trips as a teenager. Also being in NHS gives me a better chance to get into colleges of my choice. I really want to go to college, and this program makes more colleges interested in me. I hope I get elected to become a member of the National Honors Society and represent it in a good and positive…

Every honors program needs students that are driven and motivated to succeed. One of my biggest strengths is my ability to test my limits. I do not believe in settling for the easy route because I know I am capable of so much more. Some honors programs may weaken if the program contains students who are not willing to challenge themselves. As an honor student, I always strive to be the best I can possibly be. The world is moving in a fast pace. During Malcolm X’s time it was popular for black men to conk their hair. Similarly, “My First Conk” is an essay by Malcolm X where he wrote about the steps and awful experience while he was conking his hair. At that time, black people were inferior to white that’s why he conks his hair just to fit in that society. In his essay, he is emphasizing that people should accept who they are; changing just makes you feel guilt and it doesn’t show whom you are. Nobody should feel that they are inferior with others.…

Not because I think I am better than the other candidates, but because I truly want to better myself, so someday, I can say that I am one of the best. I know…
