What kind of training do you think language teachers need?
Training in the field of languages has to be practical and goal-oriented. The training teachers received can lead to learn how to teach in “The same style”. According to Kasumoto (2011:31), most teachers do not have a clear idea of the learning objectives and goals, hence they struggle to decide how much and what to teach.
I should mention that the teaching profession today has been questioned by society, government, and media, a language teacher must have some attributes:
• Reflect on teaching and research and their own processes of knowledge construction.
• Incorporates new knowledge and experience to the acquisition which has translated into strategies and teaching and learning.
• Learn from the experiences of other teachers and participate in shaping and improving their academic community.
• Is kept updated in the use of information technology and communications.
• Updated using a second language. (SEP, 2008)
I also believed having the love and passion to teach is something that is not in the list requirements to hire as a teacher but it is one of the most important.
What is the most rewarding aspect of teaching for you?
There are many rewarding moments when you teach that it´s so hard to choose. One experience from early on that got me hooked on teaching was seeing a student that was previously struggle to become better and give everything they could in one class..
I had a student who was struggling to learn English, she wasn’t admitted at the Facultad the Lenguas so she started to have English lesson with me she was extremely shy and insecure. After her course had finished she presented the exam one more time and finally she was in, nowadays she is the coordinator at USILC, and that makes me feel very happy for her and for me, having a student who has successed and see their potential and possibilities is more rewarding to me than t Christmas presents.
