John Elliott, Peter Linebaugh and Marcus Rediker, and Gregory O’Malley have all written works based on the conquering of America and the reasons Europe funded expeditions to this “New World”. John Elliot focuses on Spain in chapter 4 of “Empires of the Atlantic World” and their burning desire for resources. Peter Linebaugh and Marcus Rediker in “The Many-Headed Hydra” focus on the idea that the maritime state and other lower ranks were the biggest aids to Europe when conquering the Americas. When Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492, a new global contact was established that forever altered the civilisations of the world and more so the formation of civilisation of America. Evidently, the exchange was more beneficial for Europe and the world while America suffered through the decline of population as well as being conquered and colonised. The historical documents support this unevenly beneficial relationship by conveying the negative (though with little positive) effects the Spanish occupation had on America while at…

It is important to develop a clear thesis on the validity of the statement at the outset of the essay. A good essay could be developed on either side of the issue or in support of a middle-of –the-road position. Supporting paragraphs should be developed to build the position chosen. Both the Spanish and the English treated the Native Americans as inferiors, thought it important to bring them Christianity, sought to profit economically from relations with the Native Americans, and forced some Native Americans into slavery. Both brought terrible diseases to the New World, though the Spanish impact was more devastating because of earlier arrival. The Spanish attempted to integrate Native Americans into their colonial societies through intermarriage and through the establishment of agricultural communities with Native American workers. The English separated themselves from Native American life to a greater extent and relied mostly on trade for economic gain.…

The Pre-Columbian Era is the time period before the famous voyage of Columbus in the year 1492. Although history teaches us that the way those that came before us behaved was justified, it may not all be true. However I cannot judge past actions based on today’s standards because of the way things have changed so drastically. Knowing what really happened is important for us to grow and to learn more about ourselves. In this essay I will cover how the Europeans viewed other people, the expansion of Europe and colonization; as well as Britain’s colonies and politics. They saw it as a way to control their, ever growing, population and a way to earn more money. New inventions allowed English seamen to travel on a straighter course to their destination, find their position in the middle of the ocean, and protect themselves from the native Americans that inhabited the new world. Also, technology in means of mass communication was improved upon.…
