1. Explain what CDQAR means to you. A collateral duty quality assurance representative, are accountable to the quality assurance officer and aircraft maintenance officer within the Maintenance Department. CDQARs are responsible for the prevention of the occurrence of defects. The concept embraces all events from the start of the maintenance operation to its completion (by the book maintenance). A CDQAR must possess a detailed, working knowledge of maintenance programs and processes.
2. How can QA help you do your job better? QA makes sure procedures are carried out consistently, that problems can be identified and resolved, and that the command can continuously review and improve its procedures. Safety is the number 1 priority when it comes to working around aircraft. Whenever I feel in doubt about a certain task, I know that I can always go to QA for further guidance. Its tough for some people to be able to say “NO” when it comes down to maintenance control wanting their plane up, but I have to make sure that what I am doing is by the book and safe.
3. What do you foresee is the biggest risk to the VP-4 maintenance department? Human error and lack of training, its unreasonable to assume that any person could operate continuously without ever making a mistake. Though, human error is a very real and inevitable problem in the aviation community. Unfortunately, for those involved, it is usually met with disastrous results. One momentary lapse of judgment might very well result in a fatality, as well as, millions of dollars in damages. Not having the proper training can not only hurt the individual but others as well. I know we stress the importance of training our sailors, but now on deployment it seems that more people are becoming more relax and cutting corners to finish a job due to the flight schedule. Many sailors have that “oh, its whatever on deployment as long as the job gets done” mind set, which is due to poor quality and
