A. Reasons behind the Arab Spring?
There are various reasons behind the Arab Spring. One of the reasons was that a Tunisian young man, unable to find a job, had his cart of merchandise taken away by the, which led him to burn himself in the streets, next to thousands of people. Unemployment is one of the main reasons which lead to the revolt. After that, manifestations were going on in the cities of Tunisia. The poverty and unemployment that was going on in Tunisia lead to a massive displeasure against the government. The president escaped. This revolution, later on, was called, The Jasmine’s Revolution. This revolution moved on to Egypt, Libya, Syria, and Yemen.
B. Why now?
The Arab Spring still influences the Arab World since there is still unrest and lack of successful governments. The governments still haven’t taken the right steps towards development due to lack of emphasis in the economy. Arab countries are still in an uproar. It happened now because people could not take it anymore and people began committing suicide. It is still talked about now because all these countries, except Morocco and Tunisia, still have manifestations, and terrorism began to spread around Iraq and Libya. ISIS, formerly AL-Qaeda, used this chance to take over some countries.
C. Democracy and the Arab World?
Currently, there is no democracy in the Arab World, except for Tunisia. This is because the government have taken the wrong steps into the development of democracy. An optimistic assessment of the long-term prospects for the democratization of Arab countries showing that the trials and tribulations of the Arab Spring are neither entirely new nor unique. They are instead part and parcel of the struggles often faced by countries in transition to democracy. The Arab world can have democracy and its form of democracy could be compatible with liberalism, if it takes the right steps and accepts all kinds of people, religious or not.
