Archetypes
Archetypes, described as “mental forms whose presence cannot be explained by anything in the individual’s own life and which seem to be aboriginal, innate, and inherited shapes of the human mind” by Carl Jung, are “primitive models,” per its Greek form, “arkhetupon.” What this means is that archetypes are part of our unconsciousness that we inherited, that exists in everybody. Archetypes relate to our everyday lives as well as in mythology. Joseph Campbell was the one to conclude that all mankind is defined by archetypes. Some of the more common archetypes are the creator, the jester, caregiver, the hero, the explorer, the rebel, the sage. The magician, the innocent, the ruler, …show more content…
We make a journey out of life. We understand that exploration can be physical, where we go on a physical adventure; or also metaphorical, where we explore something maybe emotional, or something within us. We want to fulfill our goals, achieve great things, and realize our dreams. The reason why I have the explorer archetype is because I always crave adventure. I want to experience new things, get out of my comfort zone, and see the world. Unfortunately for me, I am the only person in my very close group of friends who is that way. My friends aren’t as keen on adventure as I am. I always want to go to a new place, try new food, do something new, while my friends are homebodies who just like to hang at home, and watch movies. I am always up for a spontaneous trip; there is nothing more that I love. Artemis had an explorer archetype like me. She was the goddess of hunting. Demeter is another example of a goddess with an explorer archetype. She took on the adventure of rescuing her daughter Persephone from the …show more content…
We fear mediocrity and unoriginality. I am deeply rooted in the arts, and performing arts. I love music, and painting. I was in choir for all four years of high school. I have performed at Epcot, and countless other places, in front of hundreds of people. I have received many awards for it too. I have also been told that I am a very good drawer and painter, which makes me really happy since I am so passionate about it. An example of a god with a creator archetype is Zeus. Zeus created storms, rain, lightning, and other natural weather phenomena that had to do with air, wind and the sky. He was also one that didn’t enjoy when his creations didn’t excel his expectations. Ptah also inherited the creator archetype. He was one of the major gods of ancient Egypt. He only had to think about something, and then vocalize his thought, and the thought would be created. Haphaestus is another example. He was the god of fire and forge. He was the god that was responsible for creating and making things for the other gods. Things like the armor they used, and also their weapons, like swords and
