Are Children And Adults Smarter (Or Socialized) Because Of The Technology?
Are children and adults smarter (or more socialized) because of the technology? Parents are always complaining about their kids being on their phones or any electronic device in the matter too much. In my opinion I believe that technology is actually good for kids if they use it right. Just think of all the things that they can do on it they can use a calculator on the computer or on their cell phone they can also keep in contact with you and make sure that everything is ok at all times which in the long run is always worth it to know your kid is safe.

The phones have become a big disruption in the classroom at school but if used appropriately and out appropriate times a cell phone or computer can be a very helpful tool, such as you can use it for a calculator or to help you figure out a math problem or to help you figure out what you've done wrong or help you spell something. Not saying that you shouldn't know certain words and how to spell them or what the definition is of they are but it's very easy just look it up and find the answer in a quick matter of time then to have to pull out a dictionary book and look around for the word. As long as teachers enforce the rules well enough students will come to realize when it's ok to use their electronics. It

When children access the internet on large, publicly visible screens in safe and public surroundings, the internet can be very helpful. Groups of children can learn almost anything by themselves, using the internet. I have evidence of this from all over the world. There is a statement that the internet is "full of rubbish" and that children will learn incorrect things from it. I have seen no evidence of this. When children work in groups around a computer and research a subject or topic, they invariably find the right answers. This is because they interact with each other and quickly correct erroneous

Technology is centered on the individual. Postman states, “In the classroom it is individuals that learn, not groups, however an individual must learn in a setting which individual needs are subordinated to group interests. The classroom is intended to tame the ego, to connect the individual with others, and to demonstrate the value and necessity of group cohesion” (547). Working in groups allows children to communicate their ideas and learn though listening and speaking with one another. Additionally, working in groups helps children learn how to overcome differences and find compromises. If children were educated exclusively through computers this important part of their development would be missed. Children would grow up without knowing how to interact and or speak with one…

The second reason that students shouldn't be allowed to use cell phones in school for education is for the sake of the teachers, a teacher should not have to fight for the attention of his or her students due to technology. After twenty years of teaching history and ESL for Lowell High School, Miriam Morgenstern is quitting her job for multiple reasons. One of Morgenstern’s reasons for quitting is her students and their cell phones, she explains her frustration, “The texting, tweeting, and snapchatting during class time are ‘an incredible distraction, and makes it much more difficult to teach,’ she said. ‘It’s pretty hard to compete with a very funny YouTube video.’” It is unacceptable that students are using their phones while the teacher…

According to the YouTube video "Cell Phones in School", it states how having internet at the fingertips of students, it can bring the curriculum further and more in depth than the textbooks allow. Having the curriculum at a student's fingertips, adds so much more than the textbook could possibly provide the student with. Moreover, adding to the student's overall understanding and insight on the lesson could lead to better test scores and overall grades. So if the use of cell phones could possibly help a student excel in the classroom, the cell phones policy should be reevaluated to better the school. Since the internet is at the student's fingertips, it can help a struggling student better understand the material, allowing them to excel in class. The video also states how students are able exchange and share information faster. The use of the internet too, will lower the needs for computers. The diminishing use of computers will also the school to save money in that department and apply it somewhere else. In addition, phones allow for many other uses, besides the internet. Phones can be used for my other features, such as the calculator, the timer, and video. In today’s society, our century’s technology isn’t being taken to its advantage the way past generations would have used it for. According to “The dumbest Generation” Mark Bauerlin says “Young Americans have much more access and education than their parents did” (Source A). When our parents were our age, the use of internet or technology something they could rely on. They had to learn at school the hard way. To do research, they probably had to go through books to get their background knowledge. To do a math problem, it had to be done all on paper without the use of a calculator. To simply look up how do to a certain task, YouTube or the internet wouldn’t be available to them. Now, a child has these opportunities to their advantages, but are they being used for education purposes? No because chances are they’re busy on the…

Enforcing cell phones in school will be very brave but the rewards and results will be very satisfying. It have a small keyboard that is just the right size for typing and students do not have to worry about bugs that is aggravating. The topic of Smart phones being used in class is a well debated topic especially for the classroom’s of today. Some teachers believe that it’s just a distraction and should be put away. Other teachers believe that it’s just another way for students to “cheat” on the various assessments that they will receive. Some teachers also believe that when given the option to use smart phones that students will just abuse the idea and be on the phone more than during class work. There are some teachers that permit the students to use smart phones in some class room activities and the students end up learning a lot from the activity and actually like doing it at the same time. There is also a term for it called “BYOT” (Bring Your Own Technology). This is also a great idea because a recent survey says that over 80% of kids have Smartphone be 8th grade. So there is no problem of anybody not having a phone. So the use of smart phones in class should be permitted because they increase student activity in class and also increase student attention span.…

As a student at ********* High School I feel that the use of cell phones should be allowed. In class there are not always enough calculators for every student to use, most likely every student in the room will have a cell phone, and on that cell phone there is always a calculator, allowing the use of these phones for school use they can then lower the districts budget now being able to subtract calculators. Every phone has either a memo pad or a notepad, in schools they give each student a assignment book which is supposed to be used throughout the school year to write down their school assignments and work needed to be completed. In this world today every teenage student has their cell phone steady on hand which their school assignment book should be, but are not. In this case if students could have their cell phones in class they could put their work into their cell phones with an alarm and never miss an assignment due. I think teachers should give their students a certain amount of time to put their assignments in their phones so they will only be able to use their phones for school related things. During class the teacher may ask the students to research something, while taking the whole class down to the library would take to long, many students have internet access on their cell phones which could be used at the tip of their fingers. This would save time and would allow the teachers more time to teach. The camera devices on the cell phones can come in handy also, if a student is absent a friend can take a picture of their work and send it to their friend to keep him/her…

Anything that distracts kids is contrary to a good learning, so why is there a belief that all technology is desirable? Just because technology is available, does not mean we should give permission for students to own a cell phone in the classroom. The cell phone is simply a tool of convenience for us to utilize in our lives. Schools should have strict rules to prevent students from using cell phones in the classroom for many reasons.…

In recent times, the number of people owning mobile phones has increased dramatically. Now mobile phones are not just for calling, but you can now text, take and send pictures, record videos, access the internet, play games and much more. Students use their cell phones to play games, listen to MP3 music, text message each other (a big one), and even access the Internet, among other things. Keep in mind that our kids are supposed to be learning at school. Right? Also, sadly there is a new source of bullying, in that if a student does not have the “popular type” of cell phone or one of the fancy features, he or she can can often be looked down on by their peers. Mobile phones have definitely become a status symbol for young people. If a student is texting during class they cannot put their full, divided attention into what the teacher is saying, there for what is the point of trying to explain something to someone who isn’t paying attention. Teachers come to school to educate students because it is their job, and they find it disrespectful if a student isn’t listening. Students who have their cell phone in class can use it to cheat. They can text another person and ask them the questions on the test, or the assignment they are given. This causes a problem because it can be very simple to do. Teachers pay attention to their students, but they cannot watch all of them at the same time. During a test it is more easier to catch a student who is text messages, but during regular class it can be easy to miss. Cell phones enable students to cheat fairly…
