Being homeless doesn’t just mean not having a job, it also means that you don’t have stability of any kind. Many homeless people suffer for the reason that they go from having everything in life to not having a roof, food, money, people to talk to or even tranquility. Homelessness doesn’t only affect older people but it also affects younger kids. It’s very difficult for homeless people to stabilize there life’s. For the same reason is that there are so many homeless people which are also not so healthy. If you actually think about it how is it possible for a homeless person to be healthy? Some health problems include, depression, untreated mental illness, stress disorder, and the major one is physical disabilities. Holden Constance points out that “the most common problems fare alcoholism and schizophrenia, but the homeless also suffer disproportionately from other afflictions including tuberculosis and AIDS”. When the people are homeless they don’t want to do anything other than drink. Being homeless is not easy. Homeless people might drink so they could numb a small portion of there emotional or physical pain. Drinking could also lead them to having more health consequences. Another thing is there shelter, if they don’t have a good place to rest they could also get sick. If they don’t have medical attention there health could go from being bad to worse. They are plagued with chronic problems such as hypertension and diabetes, minor injuries, skin and vascular disorders, respiratory diseases, foot and dental problems, and many stress-induced aliments (Holden …show more content…
The committee concluded that the lack of affordable housing is a major reason why so many people are homeless in the United States (Holden Constance). It is very hard to be homeless, but it is much more difficult to be homeless but with a whole family. Being homeless for children is very difficult because what they want is family love and a stable home. They might have the family love but not the stable home. It is hard for a family that is homeless to give their children a roof to protect their children, whenever they don’t even have money to feed themselves and their children. Children who compromise a growing portion of the homeless commonly suffer from asthma, anemia, malnutrition, and serious emotional and learning problems (Holden Constance). Homeless children get sick much more often than children that have stability in their lives. Homeless children have high rates of acute and chronic illness.
