Argumentative Essay: America's Economy Should Go Green
After reading and watching several supplementary mediums I can undoubtable say that America's economy should go green. Although this route may become a costlier method for America, it is also the most beneficial method for America as well. America is burning fossil fuels at a monumental rate, and the effects are going to become irreversible soon. For example, global warming is one of the possible irreversible effects that could result from burning excessive fossil fuels. In the supplementary video by National Geographic’s on global warming, it started burning these fossil fuels put an immense amount of carbon monoxide which leads to the greenhouse effect. environment. Another reason America's economy should go green is because going green could not only benefit our environment but our economy as well, by creating millions of new jobs. Since on page 186 in the textbook “Intro to geography” by Dahlman Renwick it states the other alternatives to using to harness energy such as solar panels. “Energy ultimately derived from the sun offers much potential for providing the world's energy needs in future centuries. The sun is a non polluting and perpetual source of energy that can be used directly and indirectly informs such as wind and biomass.” If we can harness energy such as solar power and wind power, we could power America in an environmentally safe way. Converting to renewable energy would also benefit the economy because we would need workers to build and assemble these devices. For example, if we convert to solar power or wind power job will be created because we would need workers to assemble and monitor the solar panels and wind turbines. Although building these devices are costly the longer-term outcome for using these devices are worth it. Americans would not only save money on their electric bills but also be preserving our environment for future generations to come. Finally, America's economy should go green because we have become too dependent on fossil fuels. American use fossil fuels because it is cheaper, but at what cost is cheaper when we are destroying our environment. In the video “Post Carbon Institute: “300 Years of Fossil Fuels in 300 Seconds” it discusses how American continue to harvest many fossil fuels in dangerous areas such as deep waters.
We are putting our environment at serious risk by extracting oils from deep waters because if they leak we would contaminate our oceans and every organism that inhabits it. In addition to harvesting fossil fuels in risky areas, we are destroying our forests for lumber as well. We are essential becoming an invasive species by terminating these ecosystems for our own benefit. When we cut down several trees we must give mother nature time to reproduce more. However, the video states at the rate we going we are not giving nature enough time to produce more tree. Overall, if we keep destroying forests there will be no way for our environment to extract the carbon monoxide produced by fossil fuels out of the ozone naturally. However, if America's economy goes green we could prevent fossil fuels from releasing harmful gasses into the ozone. Which ultimately will stop the greenhouse effect and prevent global warming.
