What’s the point to learn cursive in school when adults have told me they only used cursive when writing checks, love notes, or signing their signatures? Throughout my years in school thus far, I never needed to use cursive writing. However, cursive writing would be interesting to know, but I feel it’s not beneficial for my future.
More importantly, although I feel there should be no cursive taught in school and it may be interesting or important to learn at a young age, arguments have shown that in today’s society, there is more technology usage in schools than penmanship. Typing is more useful than handwriting where it has shown more students have more success and proficient preparing for adulating such as getting jobs.
I am certain that cursive may have many pros, but it also argues that there is not enough time to plan teaching cursive writing in school or for students to learn quickly. It can take time away from core or more relevant subject’s cursive writing has benefits to the brain, but still not a reason to teach it as there are other benefits for the brain like the use of technology. Due to cursive writing being faster, it can appear less legible than print and create problems for others to read. The only time cursive writing was used in school when students chose to take the SAT test. Now a days, it is not required to take the SAT test. Due to those reasons, I believe cursive writing should be optional or not used at all.
