An issue that is hotly debated is the topic of competitive sports. Research shows that overall competitive sports are not a good thing for children to be involved in. Because it can cause a lot of injuries, it puts a lot of pressure to do good with the kids, and lastly, for some sports, there are intense training schedules. My first reason is that there are a lot of injuries that happen in competitive sports. My evidence for this is that about 45 million kids play competitive sports in the world and about 3.5 million of those kids get injured each year. So in about two years about seven million kids and teens get injured. Also, (Adam Buckley Cohen 2009 New York Times) interviewed a father that was …show more content…
This is because most coaches want their players to do very well in the sport. My evidence for this is, (Jacqueline Stenson MSNBC contributor, 2004 NBC News) tells us that coaches and parents are “pushing children and teens too hard too young”. I chose this website because they broadcast live football and soccer games on their t.v. station. For instance say that you are pushing your child to join soccer at the age of four or five, they really want to play soccer because they enjoy it. After about 5 years and they are about ten years old, their training schedules start to get very intense. This could be a bad thing because if a child or teen has to go to school in the morning and then right after school they have a three hour long soccer practice, that could put a lot of stress of the child or teen. Also, you may start to not like the sport because you are doing it so much and you start to get sick of it. This could happen if you have a soccer practice five out of the seven days in a week. Because you are practicing so much and are doing the sport so much you could start to dread going to games and practices. Lastly all of the practices that are happening and all the games and tournaments that take place cost money, and if your parent don't have enough money to pay for all of the training, you might have to bring down the intensity
