taking it away from them will not encourage them it will cause them to give up in that classroom and it will hurt the child more than it will help them. School sports will provide you with a uniform, a bus (transportation), and you don’t have to pay a fee to be on the team. Kristen P. an 8Th grade girl who goes to Eisenhower Middle School states “Travel for me is close to 5,000-6,000 a year. This is only one child my parents are paying for.” This is a lot of money for a parent has to pay some people can’t spare this much for their child to pay one sport. Many parents have more than one child who would like to play a sport. If they can’t afford all of the children they just won’t let any play. Some people can not afford this leaving school sports their only option. Besides the fact that parent’s can’t pay for their children people argue that if you can not afford travel or rec do not play. Playing a sandlot sport will help you solve the problem of not playing but it isn’t competitive and it wont help you be the best you can be. Anyways, playing a school sport will help children play at a competitive level if they are not able to afford to play outside of school. When a child goes from practicing every day for two hours after school to not playing or practicing at all they get bored. When a child gets bored most likely they will sleep, watch TV, or play on their phones. Teens are still growing at night so when you take away there sports they become lazier and lazier. Now, they do homework and eat most of the week. This causes them to slowly become over weight. Alice Lee a writer from the website aspeninstitute.org states “Unfortunately, the number of kids participating in sports is decreasing” The website states that only 39.5 to 40 percent of the children ages five through seventeen are obese from not playing a sport in the United States. Charts show that America is the most obese country. America needs all the help it can get to help encourage children to try and lose weight. Taking away the child’s sports is definitely not encouraging them. Kristen P a classmate of mine took a survey that I offered answered one of the questions I asked. The question was What would you do/feel if the school sport you played was taken away from you. She is very athletic and plays two sports one a fall season and one a spring season; Softball and Soccer she states, “I would stop playing school ball and continue to play travel because I have that opportunity. Some of my teammates do not have this opportunity to play two travel sports like me.” People can argue their are may other
