Argumentative Essay: Is There An Afterlife?
As science and technology progressed, many of those questions were answered with logic and reason. However, as vast as our knowledge has become. We cannot definitively say whether or not there is an afterlife. I believe the afterlife is merely a fantasy, created to give people a sense of purpose and to put them at ease when the time comes for them to pass

This excerpt, The Night Faces Up story, as well as the Star Trek episode I watched for this class all have me very intrigued by the kind of stories they are. I never really gave any thought into alternate realities or vivid dreams but these pieces that we have read for this class have brought forth a new perspective for me. The writers portray a very different world then reality an alternate to what the subject actually lives. In this excerpt she passes out for just a few seconds but in somehow some way she comes back in 15second across the room muddy and wet. Her husband was sitting right there next to her and she disappeared.…

“Is there life after death?” and “What will happen to me when I die?” There is life after death, but there are two different places that one can live their eternal life after death (Roman 6:23). Eternal life can be spent in Heaven or in the fire pits of Hell. God determines whether we live eternal life in Heaven or Hell; when he judges us based on our lives on earth (2 Corinthians 5:10).…

Abortion is a controversy that has been argued and fought about for decades. People ask whether it’s the body of the mother or the life of the child, who is in charge? The answer to that is simple. The mother is the one in charge of her body, but while being in charge of her body she engaged in intercourse and as a result there came a baby. Now, the baby is a person too, so going forward with abortion is indeed murder. There are at least three alternatives to abortion: parenting, adoption, and interim foster care (Abortion Alternatives). Most people claim that not everyone is ready to be a parent, and they are correct. However, as was said before there are other options than just being parent. There are options that wouldn’t be murder.…

In fact, people from most major religions, and many different civilizations, have some belief in the afterlife. Rowe begins the article by pointing out that over time several conceptions of the afterlife have emerged. “Varieties of Immortality,” looks at the most predominant, and begins with those that appear in ancient Greece. One is the Homeric and the other is the Platonic. The Homeric view is that something does survive death, but what survives is only a portion of what existed on Earth.…

As of November 20, 2014, same –sex marriage has been legalized in 35 out of 50 U.S. states. Same-sex marriage is a hot topic which the Supreme Court is considering to legalize. Many people say a homosexual person is a sinner. The question is do homosexual people choose his or her gender? They were born that way and they are happy with their lives. Homosexual people are nothing unlike heterosexual people. They are living, they are working, and they contribute to society. Proponents state that same-sex couples should have access to the same marriage benefits and public acknowledgment enjoyed by heterosexual couples and that prohibiting gay marriage is unconstitutional discrimination. On the other side, opponents argue that altering the traditional definition of marriage as between a man and a woman will further weaken a threatened institution and that legalizing gay marriage is a slippery downhill way that may lead to polygamous and interspecies marriages (gaymarriage.procon.org). All people in the world should understand the meaning of marriage, whether a same-sex marriage or a traditional marriage. For that reason, same-sex marriage should be considered as a legal marriage because it is an equal right for humankind and beneficial for society as well as preventing youth suicide.…

The prices of college tuition have increased yearly, and not much of an effort is put forth to try to lower the costs. For example, colleges in the state of Pennsylvania have a high tuition. Moravian College’s tuition is about $32,931, and after receipt of grants and scholarships for one year it will be $22,900. East Stroudsburg University’s tuition is about $6,240, and after receipt of grants and scholarships for one year it will be $12,500. I can barely afford Community College, and I know for a fact I wouldn’t be able to afford any of these colleges or universities either. In this essay, I will explain through facts and opinions, why the cost of college tuition should be lowered.…

Also, reincarnation tends to support the sense of an afterlife because it shows that our souls can live on in another being once our physical body has died. There tends to be less evidence for this belief however, it does give people hope that there is something to believe in after death. Finally, psychics who can communicate with the dead show believers that people that have passed are still in a place where their souls can be happy. Ultimately, psychics show us that the souls of our loves ones can watch over us and can still be involved in our lives without us knowing. All of these claims however, have critics and skeptics that do not support them. Rachels in his essay “Do We Survive Death?” points out many of the criticisms for these arguments and tends to show the reader that he does not believe in an afterlife for the soul. I tended to listen to Rachels argument and take it into consideration however, I usually…

“The right to choose to live or to die is the most fundamental right there is; conversely, the duty to give others that opportunity to the best of our ability is the most fundamental duty there is” (Aubrey de Grey, 2003). The right to die has always been a controversial topic. This is a question that fueled a modern movement in the 1970’s. With the advancement of technology, it became possible to keep people who had suffered traumatic injuries alive when they would have certainly died in a previous era (McCormick, 2011). While in many cases, these patients made a full recovery and went on to lead productive, fulfilling lives, others who underwent mandatory medicinal treatment, were forced to face a life of significantly reduced quality. These…
