Mars, defined as the fourth planet from the sun, as well as the Roman god of war. Planet Mars was first observed in 1609, by Galileo Galilei using a telescope. It was said that the planet Mars was seen since the ancient Egyptian time. A significant amount of research is currently being done on Mars by satellite and rovers. Many people question about the possibility for people to live on Planet Mars in the future.
Mars has gotten its name from the Romans, who changed the planet’s name from Ares, the Greek god of war, to Mars after beating the Greeks. People theorized that there might be life on Mars at one point in time. Some people think there might be life on Mars now. The most public reason to support this theory is by Geologist David McKay. He had studied the rocks than landed on the Earth from Mars. The rocks were pieces of Mars' surface that got chipped off from asteroids that hit mar’s surface. With these rocks, McKay found complex organic molecules. These molecules are in bits of a mineral, magnetite, that can be created within certain bacteria. This theory is still controversial and there is no conclusion that there is actually life on Mars. The discoveries of water on Mars has been a factor of the theories of inhabitants on Mars. The theory of life on Mars was first created by Giovanni Schiaparelli in the nineteenth century. He saw these long streaks on the surface of the planet. He called these streaks,”canal”, meaning channels in Italian. Later in time was later called canals. Since of the change to canals, people thought that some form of life created the canals.
