Summary: Colonizing The Red Planet
Colonizing the Red Planet
As humans we are very curious. We have explored and conquered all around Planet Earth. It's only been a matter of time before we move onto bigger and better things. Mars may seem like it is too far away or too complicated to try and accomplish, but with the technology changing every day we are closer than ever to reach the red planet. Colonizing Mars can happen if we get water, learn how to grow food, obtain oxygen, and get the materials needed survive.
Mars, otherwise know as the red planet has been shown to be a desert like world. In pictures the planet is depicted as a dry, unlivable place. Yet, the red planet was not always a dry, dusty desert like planet. “NASA has also found evidence that Mars had rivers, lakes, and possibly even oceans long ago.” (Water on the Red Planet). If there once was water then there is a very good possibility that there might be more hidden from us.
Technology has increased fast in the past couple of years. Making research become fast and easier. Finding water on Mars has always been a challenge, but as of last year NASA has found that Mars infact does have water. “In 2015 September NASA announced the finding of what seem to be small amounts of liquid water, just

Not only is it amazing but it is vital for us to live. In order for us to live we will need to be able to plant vegetation. We need to make sure the soil is safe and would actually be able to have plants grow in it. The soil on Mars contains most of the nutrients required for keeping a sustaining crops. Unlike Earth, Mars soil does not have as much nitrogen and potassium, but it does contain a great amount of macronutrients and micronutrients. Nitrogen in the air can be converted into ammonia, and when mixed with the macronutrients and micronutrients it can make excellent fertilizer (Hender). Since the soil on the planet is farmable we can plant many different plants to

The movie is a science fiction adventure movie which goes in for the idea of texture and tics and human behavior. In order to survive on Mars, Mark applies his scientific knowledge to his situation using applications of math and science, and he finds a way to communicate with NASA experts and the world. The movie in an indirect way discusses the possibilities of man’s future in space.…

One of the biggest problems of growing crops in space is the lack of gravity. On Mars, the gravity is actually not an issue. It may be a lot less than the levels on earth, but it is enough to keep the plants growing upright and to keep water flowing to their roots.…

Mars is the 4th planet from the sun. It has always been the 3rd race in space since man first reached space and man landed on the moon. Mars has had robotic explorers study the planet for over 40 years. Ever since the International Space Station has been put into orbit it has given scientists and medical professionals a great way to study the effect of space on human anatomy over long periods of time. NASA will send a robotic mission to capture and redirect an asteroid to orbit the moon. Astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft will explore the asteroid in the 2020s, returning to Earth with samples.…

In 2010 NASA published a video, “NASA’s New Era of Innovation and Discovery.” Bolden said, “We’re going to turn science fiction into science fact.” Bolden said his agency’s long-term ambition is landing astronauts on Mars. In October 2015, Bolden presented the next steps for human journey to Mars at the Center for American Progress in Washington D.C. After reading about Dr.Charles Frank Bolden,Jr., I want to become an astronaut. His accomplishment as an African American lets me know that “The sky is the Limit.”[ NASA.gov…

But how could we possibly reach them, modern day space travel doesn’t even reach the moon, and we still don’t know how long humans can live in zero-gravity without permanent, adverse effects. And how might humans survive under a different sun with lashes of uncontained radiation that are common on Mars. This research will analyze the reasoning and possibilities of humanity colonizing Mars as well as the changes society might undergo having a foothold in two different planets in order to answer the questions, why do humans feel the need to colonize Mars? And how might its colonization affect our…

Establishing a colony on mars is not an option, it is a necessity. Clearly, the next logical step for our race is to expand out into the stars, into the unknown. The Human race has to put more effort and resources into space exploration. It is in our deep underlying nature to explore, we are a curious animal that wants to discover all it can, we just need the tools to do so. We need the next Christopher Columbus, we need someone with the drive and will to explore the unknown.…

I really liked pictures and cameras so I would like to look at pictures of Mars and wondered what it would be like to take pictures of Mars. My dad worked as a camera engineer for HP at the time, so I got a lot of exposer to taking pictures with the test cameras and figuring out how they operated. This article relates class because we have been learning about the elements the planets are made of. Implications can lead uniformed people to think that the environment on mars is possible for life, however, Mars has a very extreme environment and lacks a thicker atmosphere for life to be sustained. I do not know enough about Mars to dispute any of the points in the article, however I thought it was cool that NASA is researching the possibility of life on Mars. I wonder if there are any other planets like Mars. What would Mars look like if it currently had life? Why do people feel lonely about the possibility that we are the only…

The idea of space colonization has fascinated the minds of generations of people on this planet and it is slowly becoming a reality. The advancements in space Technology in the past 10 years have surpassed what some thought would stay fiction. Some say we should colonize the moon, some mars and even others say planets outside of our solar system. These people bring excellent reasons for why they say what they say but currently and realistically the best option is Mars. While the atmosphere of mars is quite different than earths, having roughly only 1% of earth’s atmospheric pressure at sea level, Mars has a much thinner atmosphere which is also 96% carbon dioxide. The average temperature on earth is 14 degrees Celsius (57 degrees Fahrenheit),…

    Mars Versus Earth

Mars has no liquid water on its surface because its atmospheric pressure is too low. Instead the surface only looks similar to places like California’s Mohave Desert and different volcanic places in the Hawaiian islands. Its surface looks reddish from iron oxide, is mostly rocky and barren with no signs of organisms yet, and its air is mostly carbon dioxide. It also has massive dust storms. The only place there might be water is trapped in its polar ice caps. Earth on the other hand abounds with vegetation, life, water, and oxygen due to our atmosphere and relative distance to the sun. Mars is also about half the size of Earth, and its mass is much smaller, making its gravity much weaker as well. Mars does not have plate tectonics like Earth. Because it’s mantle stays fixed, hotspots remain in the same position which is why it develops the largest volcanoes in the solar system, such as Olympus Mons.…

Dr. Stephen Petranek said, ”Some of the greatest advantages in civilization and technology, came because we explored.” Humans should not colonize Mars. If humans colonized Mars, humans would barely be able to survive. Mars lacks two very crucial products to survive, food and oxygen. Humans of the future would not benefit with colonizing Mars because humans who go to Mars, will have a risky voyage, there is not oxygen, and it will cost a lot of money to arrive on Mars.…
