As immigrants, it takes months and years in some cases to get a health insurance. Thankfully, we were able to afford my father’s expensive medication to control his physical pain while waiting for the insurance. A lot of immigrants put their lives at a high risk when they cut off their medication because they cannot afford it without health insurance. it. I shadowed this situation several times, which brought to my attention that finding the cure alone is not enough, but rather, the cure at an affordable price.
I grew up with a specific dream that had stemmed little by little from my childhood experiences. As a child, I preferred to practice reading the different and more complicated medicine terms and enjoyed memorizing them. In addition, instead of wanting to read books, magazines or newspapers, I preferred to read the drug facts attached to the back of all the medicine bottles. I’ve always enjoyed trying to decipher the chemicals linked to each medicine bottle and always dreamed that I would be able to one day learn more about medications and how each part of the chemical and compound affected the human body. Most importantly, I’ve dreamed to one day be someone who created a pain-free life and who was able to find cures for most types of diseases at an affordable price through medicine. My life experiences along with my love of chemistry had always been the stimulator for my pharmacy career
Being diagnosed with a disease can be emotionally and mentally draining.
When you add physical pain to the equation, it makes the road to recovery so much more difficult. Thankfully, the creation of medicine for diseases is not only able to provide relief of physical pain, but it also provides hope for being cured of these diseases. I believe that the glimmer of Hope these medicines provide is crucial to each patient. These medications, side effects and all, are not just able to help people feel better, but also keep a smile on their face. I’ve always had a love for Medicine, but I’ve never thought of medicine being as powerful in my life until my father’s cancer diagnoses. Although my father’s cancer was not cured and he is no longer with me, but he always insisted on me to develop on my career path in Pharmacy and to never give up on my dream
job.
Each laboratory I had while pursuing my bachelor in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at UC, Davis, made me even more eager to explore the chemistry behind medicine. Also, attending chemist’s seminars and looking into their projects and their career path made me more curious and wanted to be part of almost every project of creating a new medicine. My ultimate career goal is to creating a pain-free world through medicine and providing medication at affordable prices for people with no health insurance. Pharmacy school is the best place to help me achieve my goals.
