This is something that most employers do to ensure that they are obtaining the best candidate that they can for the job, or at least not have a murderer/burglar working behind the register. A criminal history is also pretty much impossible to get rid of, because it is available everywhere.
I was surprised to figure out, through the google news search on employment screening, that a lot of employers want to banish the idea of a background check, because most of that information can be found out publicly.
Also, in “Quit Social Media. Your Career May Depend on It,” it states the obvious. Like in the picture that first pops up for the article, it really is like we are wearing blinders that keep us focused on what we are doing on social media, and completely ignoring the fact that everything you post is available to the next employer you submit your resume and application to.
