One reason I believe that people are good heart is that when you are born, your mind is not clouded by politics, or by greed and hate. His motives were not clearly stated, but it could be inferred that he wanted to stay on the island, hunt pigs and have fun. Ralph wanted to be rescued, and only did everything necessary to survive. Jack started out in Ralph’s group, but as time went on, he couldn't do what he really wanted to do, which was hunt. Jack got upset when Ralph criticized his hunters and ran off to form his own tribe. He went crazy, and took Piggy’s glasses, and earlier in the book actually broke a side too, and wouldn't give them back, because he wanted to prevent rescue and divert Ralph’s group from what was important, which was the signal fire. Now, why would a boy like Jack do that? We know that he’s quite a bully but how could have he become a bully? A viable and probable possibility is that he had been influenced by his parents, neighbors, friends or society itself, indirectly or directly.
