“Schools and Censorship: Banned Books” states that, our basic right — the freedom to express ourselves as we see fit — is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the United States' Constitution, ensuring the freedom to express one's opinion even if that opinion might be considered unpopular or unorthodox” in which further supports the right to express oneself. Moreover, if books are banned because of the categories stated above then one can assume practically any book could be banned and censored because people interpret things differently. “Schools and Censorship: Banned Books” states that, “Every day someone tries to control or otherwise to restrict oral expressions, broadcast messages, or written words. Almost every idea, at one point, has proven to be objectionable to someone.” Which many know is practically impossible to do, which furthers support in not banning or censoring books.
All in all, people should be allowed to read whatever they want to read, including banned and/or censored books. Not only is banning or censoring books oppression to the author, it is oppressing the readers that enjoy that author’s works.
