The most common used drug that is illegal. It is considered a gateway drug. It is a plant that contains THC. When inhaled some effects are a relaxed feeling, increased appetite, paranoia, and etc. You can cook it by extracting the THC into oil and cooking food with it, Such as brownies, cookies, even fried chicken. I am talking about Marijuana. Why is Marijuana illegal?, But yet alcohol and tobacco is legal and might I add taxed . There are two sides to the legalization of Marijuana, the people who are in favor of it, and the people who are against it. I am in favor of the legalization of Marijuana. It was listed a drug in the U.S Pharmacopoeia in 1850.The recreational use of marijuana became popular during the Prohibition era of the 1930s when alcohol was banned in America for a period of time. I remember starting off just because all my friends were doing it and I saw actors on television portraying Marijuana in an open way .I thought why is it so illegal if everyone does it. First few times were the worst for me and I hated it, I felt paranoid. I was hungry. After a while I slowly got used to. After reading that smoking lowers the dopamine in your brain and increases addiction. I thought about it for a second. Does that make me a Marijuana addict? Then why am I not addicted to alcohol? I feel that people can be psychologically addicted to marijuana and that’s a million times better than being addicted to alcohol, heroin, cocaine ,prescription pills to name a few. They become physically addicted and they are at the point where they will start getting sick, becoming unhappy, because they are not getting the drug they want. According to a study 14,800 people died in 2008 due to prescription painkiller pills. So a pill that is prescribed by a doctor and sold over the counter is legal and Marijuana is not. I feel that in the next twenty years, Marijuana is going to be legalized. The government will tax it and make profit. If the state of California legalized and taxed Marijuana the annual revenue would be estimated to be 1,400,000,000 dollars. That’s an excess of a trillion dollars. The issue of kids abusing marijuana is very ironic. For 20 years, Dutch citizens over the age of 18 in the Netherlands are permitted to buy and use Marijuana.
