In the early afternoon of December 26, 1996, John Ramsey found JonBenet lying dead in the basement strangled by a nylon cord and a garrote that was made from Patsy’s paint brush, wrists tied above her head, with a strip of duct tape over her mouth. Earlier that night, Burke and Jonbenet Ramsey were eating their favorite snack, pineapple and yogurt. Quarreling over Jonbenet stealing a piece of his late night treat, nine-year-old Burke took it out of hand and threw a flashlight at her head. The blow to the head knocked her unconscious, making him believe she was dead. Panicking, Burke called out to his parents to reveal what he had done. Stunned at the sight of their comatose daughter, Patsy and John chose to protect their family by making the…

We foster and celebrate practices that nurture living and learning in an atmosphere of caring, respect and mutual accountability.1 The cover of the book itself is the epitome of what a community should be. On the cover, there is a picture of a young black boy in the middle of the street, who no one seems to be paying any attention. Although the picture is fixated on him, behind him seems to be a rally of some kind with thousands of people. As they march through the streets holding signs, it is a truly poignant photo. It is a sincerely inspirational sight, which Dr. Hill also describes in his book. After eighteen year-old, Michael Brown, was shot and killed by police, “...crowds of protesters appeared in Oakland, Los Angeles, Dallas, Denver, Washington, Minneapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, and New York [stood] in solidarity” (Hill 12). People were outraged about Michael Brown’s death, and most of them never even met him. It is beautiful to think that all of these people care enough to get together and try to make a change. There is a strength in numbers and those numerous protesters prove…
Why does all of the evidence point to one man, Lee Harvey Oswald? First, before getting into why evidence points to him what made this day take a wrong turn.. On November 22 1963, President John F Kennedy was riding in a motorcade with Jacqueline, his wife then Governor Connally, and Nellie Connally. He was shot as they were turning onto Elm Street in Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas at 12:30. The Warren Report, a commision of the assassination has came to a conclusion that three shots came from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository from Oswald. It Stated that he acted alone and there was no other shooters, why couldn’t you just ask him? Two Days after he was shot by Jack Ruby, a nightclub owner which also acted a lone on this act.…
The Dred Scott case of 1856 was a debate on whether a slave of African American decent had any legal power to sue for their freedom and be granted the rights, privileges, and immunities granted to all United States citizens. Dred Scott argued that he should be entitled to liberty and the benefits that come with being a United States citizen because he had lived in the Free State of Illinois for some time and spent time in the northern part of the Louisiana purchase which was also a free territory. Scott ended up suing, and after many appeals in the lower circuit courts, his case was ultimately taken to the supreme court since no state had the jurisdiction to ban slavery. The state of Missouri cannot act on its own to enact citizenship and…
The death of Trayvon Martin sparked a fire. It caused individuals not only in the Florida community but throughout the land to ask for social change within the legal system. An innocent boy’s murdering has been compared to the lynching of Emmett Till in 1955. Trayvon Martin’s death has moved societal groups in a way that has not been seen in over forty years. Many individuals across the nation are angered that a young man who supposedly was just minding his business has been shoot by a man in his twenties because of a set suspicion. This man, now arrested, had been walking free for weeks. This anger instilled in people has caused millions of people to sign petitions, organize rallies, and hold vigils. NBA players have…
In 1857, a slave named Dred Scott went to the north with his owner. While the two men got to the north the Scott’s owner died. From this Scott looked at himself as a free man. He even sued for freedom. He argued that if is owner died in a free territory that would make him a free man. Scott went to the Supreme Court to defend his freedom. The court ruled seven to two that Dred Scott was not a free man and he had to return to slavery. Scott grew with anger and still believed he should be free. The court’s decision was final and Scott was later forced back into slavery. During the Dred Scott case Chief Justice ruled that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional and he decided to abolish it.…
Darren Wilson was a white police officer who went out one day patrolling as is daily duty. Through his reports, he claimed that he was went to stop Michael Brown for jaywalking, but to later discover that he had just robbed a convenience store. Wilson claimed that Brown became very angry because he thought he was being caught for his crime. Brown began to charge at Wilson and was soon at the car window. Brown then tried to grab Wilson’s gun so Wilson began to shoot. So much happened in such a short time. As Wilson felt threatened for his life, as a police officer, he had the right to shoot out of protection. He knew this man was not in the right sense to come at him and he did not want to mess around. Anyone who tries to attack a police officer should understand that he or she has a gun and has the right to use it this type of circumstance.…
Is John brown a terrorist or revolutionary. Well lets see, I believe that john brown was a terrorist for 3 reason, my first proof reason is that his initial plan was to take control of the federal armory and after that cease control of all the weapons and use them to arm and free slaves all across the south. My second reason is that John Brown has a long line of insane family members. My third and final proof is that john brown is abolitionist but not antislavery.…

White was seeking revenge for the wrongs he felt were being perpetrated into him. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination is not so much in the physical act, but rather the legacy he left behind. African-Americans have mainly Dr. King to thank for their equal rights and growing power in society. As leader of the Civil Rights Movement, he worked tirelessly and gave his life for the cause, and his efforts were rewarded by the Civil Rights Act in 1964. His leadership began to transcend race; he gained the support of some whites with his charisma, determination, and convincing speeches. He also inspired new forms of peaceful protest, such as boycotts and marches, that are still used to fight for different rights today, specifically in the black community. They learned from him in the past and now take those lessons to continue fighting for true equality and transcending the race barrier. The assassination’s impact in modern day is that he is seen as a martyr, studied in schools across the country and famous for his heartfelt speeches that drove the movement for so long. There are always those “What if he had lived a full life? Where would civil and racial rights be if he lived for longer?” questions, to which there are no real answers. But that is what his legacy entails. The African-Americans continue to hope for the next Dr. King to lead them through the tough issues now in racist policing. But his impact is also a sense of hope: the African-American community has hope that, similar to how they gained racial equality after slavery…
Guns don’t kill people – people kill people. I know some of you are shaking your heads and thinking how ridiculous that statement is. But, to say that guns kill people is to say that the car killed the family of four, instead of the drunk driver killed the family of four. Watch almost any nightly news and you will see a story about someone in the community who gets butchered by a drunk driver. The Center for Disease Control reported that in 2013 there were 10,076 Americans killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes. That is almost 30 of us every day. It is an unbelievable figure. Yet we rarely blame the car for the deadly crash; instead we blame the drunk driver. However, when it comes to a mad man who kills people with a gun many of us get it backwards. We don’t hold the crazy guy responsible – we blame the gun. It is a natural reaction to an unthinkable act.…

The intruder is already in your house where your kids sleep at night, and the police's response time is not going to be fast enough. What if you were able to hide, well you can not hide forever and eventually he will find you. No matter what you think, or how you feel about guns; if you were to put yourself in that position. You would be very grateful for the gun that saved you and your precious children.…
One of the biggest controversial topics in America today is Gun Control, whether we should or should not have gun control. The Government claims that if they take the guns away, that there will be a drop in deaths and crimes. The Second Amendment state that every citizen of the United States of America has a right to bare arms(ProCon#1). The Gun Control Law will take away that right completely, along with some of our freedom. If the Gun Control Law is enforced in the United States, our hunting right will be removed, our self-defense right will be taken away, and it will amplify the problem.…
