should be considered a gift and not an advantage or a joke, and this is where this essay will lead to find the main reason why adoption is not for everyone. Activist of gay rights believe adoption SHOULD be the legal recognition of gay marriage. But where was the child's happiness, rights, or even health for that matter remembered in this belief. Child may encounter different types of emotions, most of them negative, when informed that parents are homosexual. Children that were conducted in a research were known to be shocked, confused, hurt, and embarrassed. Young children need to deny the meaning of the information as older children may be burdened by the secret or have concerns for their own sexual development, with an increased pressure to act out their heterosexuality for reassurance. All these statements fall into the psychological development of the child, meaning that if adopted by homosexual parents, the child is to have confusion and even feel hatred towards the parents or even himself. Important factors such as the happiness and the rights of the child that is going to be adopted should never forgotten. The happiness of the child is entirely depending on the hands of the parents. But how can the child find happiness in a home of confusion and natural social disoriented way of life? Another psychological problem the child may encounter would be in their early stages of elementary school because most children at this age are very capable of being mean to other children. If the rest of the children of the adopted child's school find out that his/her parents are homosexuals they will most likely make fun of the adopted child bringing depression and lowering self esteem of his own person. After this, the child will start himself why the rest of the kids' parents are a woman and a man and why his are not. Born a normal human being, one has the right to be brought up by a normal traditional family that would not cause the child to feel confused or hurts by his own family. Another aspect that the child may believe to be normal is to have a romantic relationship with the same sex because that is how he was brought up by and he would believe there was nothing wrong with this and the cycle would then continue creating a great social problem in our nation. Opponents argue that adoption should be allowed by homosexual because of the fact that we live in a free country and that they should also be granted "basic" rights including the right of adopting a child.
The Constitution implies that the people of America have liberty and freedom. Gays and Lesbian do have a right to be homosexual but when a child comes to play, it is a whole different ball game as it should be treated differently as well. Another problem within society is when the adopted child starts attending school. The child will have to confront teachers, classmates, and the parents of the other children. These groups will most likely discriminate him even though the child is not at fault of parents' sexual preference. A traditional family consists of two parents, a male, a female and maybe even brothers and sisters. The groups of society that revolve around this child will discriminate him causing the child to be depressed. If government allows homosexual couples to adopt children our worldwide respect and reputation would be gone. Lesbian and gay parents and their children are often subject to prejudice because of sexual orientation that turns judges, legislators, professionals, and the public against them, frequently resulting in negative outcomes such as loss of physical custody, restrictions on visitation, and prohibitions against
adoption. Homosexuals believe that most molestation come from heterosexual but the truth of the fact is that molestations also come from homosexuals. According to Robert Knight: Even though homosexuals represent less than three percent of the U.S. population, at least one-third of all child molestations involve homosexual activity. Thus, the propensity for pedophilia is far higher among homosexuals.
Some researchers are even doubting that fact of the outcome that children raised by gays or lesbian may become homosexual themselves. The classification of parents as lesbian, gay, or heterosexual has been problematic. Children brought up by gay fathers or lesbian mothers will show disturbances in gender identity and/or in gender role behavior. It has also been suggested that children brought up by lesbian mothers or gay fathers will themselves become gay or lesbian. Another common fear is that children living with gay or lesbian parents may be more likely to be sexually abused by the parent or by the parent's friends or acquaintances. Some might argue that the child would be lacking the father in a lesbian couple and a mother in a gay couple. Adoption is a means of securing the best possible home for a child where homosexuals would not provide such family quality. In a homosexual home, children would not be provided with security but completely opposite. In a personal interview, a lesbian testified her point of view from homosexual parents.
Leslie: Hi, do you mind if I ask you a few question of homosexuality?
Karina: Hello! Yes sure, what do you want to know about?
Leslie: I do not really understand what you are saying .
Karina: I am against the idea of adoption from homosexuals.
Leslie: Can you tell me why?
Karina: It would bring too many conflicts not only for the adopting parents or couple but also for the child. Personally I would not know how to tell my child that I am gay. And if I ever come to the decision of adopting a child, I would never tell my child about my sexual preference.
Leslie: That is very interesting; I was not expecting that at all.
Karina: But I would love to be a natural birth mother one of these days and I would have sexual intercourse and none of that artificial insemination.
Leslie: Well thank you very much for your time.
Karina: You're welcome. Just to show that even some of us gay people do not agree with adoption from gays! As well written proof from a real interview from a lesbian, we can see that even she knew that it would cause harm to the child's development in life and also the encounter of psychological health problems.
