In 1924, Presidential Candidate, Robert La Follete said, “Our choice is not merely to support or oppose gun control but to decide who can own which guns under what conditions.” After many years later, the debate over gun control has always been a hot issue not only for the U.S but also for the whole world. However, this problem has truly become more significant since the outrageous Sandy Hook shooting was happened in Connecticut last year. There have been many debates over this issue whether people can have their rights to own the guns or not. In my opinion, the US government should have tighter the gun control and improve the background check system for people buying firearms in order to avert more tragedies. …show more content…
Meanwhile, the U.S government should have a background check system and virtual ban on guns instead of the original one. They should set a single, simple, equitable standard for firearm transfers. In Canada and England where there is a virtual ban on guns the burglary rate involving guns is nearly 50 percent compared to 13 percent in America (Jeffrey 1233-1234). In short, the best way to support the law is from each side, social, political, and criminal. It is the criminal aspects of gun control, which cause significant social strife and in turn political action. The net effect is that all three together are working to either prevent or promote the performance of gun control laws, laws that have a significant impact to every person on every side of the debate. In conclusion, the debate over gun control still continues to be a hot issue at least in the next few years. Whether people support it or not, the main method that the government should do now is to tighten the law stricter in order to provide a safety society for every citizens. It is certain that in our lifetime we will see significant changes in the current policy dealing with the possession of firearms.
