In the article Police violence: American Epidemic, American Consent, published in the newspaper The New York Times on September 26th 2016, Charles M. Blow writes about how racism exists in our society. He wants to inform about racism and that is something that must be done right now!
The writer starts off the article by saying that there have been another set of shootings. A dark coloured guy has been shot unfairly by the police, both protest and rioting occur. Blow is really upset on the state because they will not do anything about it. What he means is that they can not sweep their problems under the rug. The responsibility lands on the society. The society have to be fixed, not the police. We can not stop ignoring that racism is a big problem. It is a real problem that soon can not be fixed.
I agree with the writer that racism is a big problem today. It splits dark and white coloured citizens in different groups. What makes me angry is that the government wont take this problem seriously. I have witness videos on Facebook that tries to slander dark skinned people in crimes etc. So I totally agree with Blow’s point that some videos from the internet tries to angel the videos/pictures towards dark skinned citizens. Do not judge a person from the colour on their skin, how they look or their gender. That is something that I will take with me from this article.
But I have to say that I do not think about these problems that often. I am aware that racism is a big problem and it feels like it just getting worse. The negative attitude towards immigrants particularly in Sweden is because the mass immigration that is happening right now. I think we should welcome them with open arms, at least the amount we can take care of. But I know that it is mixed feelings about this
