The Army is a Profession of Arms because it embodies five different aspects of a profession. First, the profession provides a service to the American people. A professional Soldier puts the welfare of the nation, the Army and their subordinates before themselves. They do what’s right, legally and morally. The professional Soldier faces fear, danger or adversity both physically and morally. A professional Soldier being honorable is a matter of carrying out, acting, and living the values of duty, loyalty, respect, selfless service, integrity and personal courage in everything they do. A Human Resource Soldier is a professional. After nine years of war, the Human Resource Soldier has adapted to incredible changes and continues to adapt to new changes every day. The Army implemented the Interactive Personnel Electronic Records Management System (iPERMS) which holds records for all Soldiers. They also employed the Digital Training Management System (DTMS) which holds training records for all Soldiers. There is even a new system to work Noncommissioned Officer Evaluation Reports (NCOER) and Officer Evaluation Reports (OER). These are just a few of the new systems the Army has applied to continue to keep our force strong. The Army also introduced the Structured Self Development (SSD) courses. These courses are intended to keep the Soldier thinking critically and to make them become a more well-rounded and knowledgeable Soldier.
