Art Therapy Goals
Jeff Rich once said, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” That is something I like to keep in mind every day. It reminds me to never get off track and to be consistent with my ambitions. Although I have many things I would like to achieve, whether it is short term or long term, I have one main goal. I took a course in Leadership last year that helped me realize how important having a goal is. On the first day of class, my teacher went around the room asking everyone where they saw themselves in 10 years. Most gave simple answers like “to have a job” or “to be happy.” Then my teacher asked how and what is going to get you to have a job or be happy. From that day on, my teacher constantly reiterated that if we want something to happen, we have to make it as specific as possible. We cannot just sit around and wait for it to come to us. We need to make a detailed goal and do everything we can to accomplish it. My goal is to become an art therapist within those next 10 years. To begin, I want to have a career in art therapy and help those in need. Through my own struggles, I have …show more content…
In fact, that is why I chose to come to Marywood University. Art therapy is not a common major or career at all. Out of all the colleges I looked at, I only found five schools that had art therapy as an undergraduate program. This limited my choices of schools immensely, however, it helped me pick the right one. Out of the five schools I looked at, Marywood had a little bit of everything. Although I chose Marywood because it was close to home and so I could continue to play soccer, I picked it for other reasons too. Most importantly, it had my major, not only as an undergraduate degree, but a graduate degree as well. Secondly, it was small enough so I knew I would be getting any extra help I may need. Along with all of these things, I knew Marywood would also help me stay on track with

In life, to successfully move forward I need to establish goals. “The tragedy in life is not reaching your goal, but having no goal to reach” (Leadership for Student Activities, 2005). I must have a plan of how I will achieve my goals and be able to identify when an important element of that goal is reached. Possible setbacks must be considered and purposeful schemes arranged for when the unexpected shows up. According to Deci and Ryan (1984), “Goals, whether trivial, routine, significant or life altering, are part of peoples everyday lives”.…

My short term goals include getting my Capstone Diploma, maintaining good grades in my academics, striving for success, and graduating high school. Striving for success is essential as well as graduating high school, but I feel like they are less daunting than the other two short term goals I have. Getting my Capstone Diploma will be a challenging road. It is not easy to achieve what the College Board requires for in that class, but I know that both the teacher and my determination will guide me through in order to accomplish my goal. And as for maintaining good grades in my academics I will have to turn in everything on time and study the material given in the course in order to grasp my goal. For long term goals I want to become a successful electrical and computer engineer. I know this goal will not be easy, but I feel like I have the determination and confidence that it takes to reach my…

The programs I would like to be in are Computer Science at Freehold Boro, Medical Science at Freehold Boro, or International Baccalaureate program and Freehold Township. I plan on achieving this goal by studying hard, getting good grades, and always striving for more. Another goal I have set for myself is to make the playoffs this year in football. I plan on achieving this goal by working hard at practice and getting all my teammates to work hard also. If I achieve these goals I think I will have an even more honorable…

These long-term goals I have shared with you are only some of the few I have set for myself. Through my youth I have also set short-term goals such as entering the National Honor Society (NHS) in my DODEA School. In order to achieve this goal I organized myself, and focused on all the important details such as 3.4 GPA or higher, community service hours, and other leadership positions that were required in order to apply for a position. Once this goal was met, more effort from my part was put forth in order to obey the code of conduct and fulfill new expectations.…

The American Art Therapy Association defines art therapy as “the therapeutic use of art making, within a professional relationship, by people who experience illness, trauma or challenges in living, and by people who seek personal development” (American Art Therapy Association, 2011). Art therapy can be used to successfully treat PTSD. Facing and overcoming trauma place a significant amount of tension in the brain. “The traumatized brain is constantly on high alert” (“Calm through creativity”, n.d.) from being used to and the constant re-living of the unsafe and traumatizing environment. Artistic activities, like drawing or sculpting clay, can soothe those lower regions of the brain that are overactive and release some of the mental…

There are many types of goals. Growing up, I always dreamed of being two things: a mother and a nurse. I am blessed to have two wonderful children ages 14 and 16 and have had the privilege of being able to be a stay-at-home mom during their younger years. Now that they are older and a bit more independent, I have decided to go back to school and fulfill my goal of earning my degree in Nursing. Throughout the years of growing and maturing, I have learned how important it is to have good morals, values, goals, a passion for something, and a good education. I have not only taught my children the importance of these characteristics, but I have also shown them that regardless of one’s age or stage in life, that…

Mapping out your future is very important and allows you to see clearly where you’re going in life, habit 2, Begin with the end in mind is a tool that can help with this. The second is that if you don’t decide your own future, someone else’ll do it for you.” (Covey 80).
