In today’ high stakes accountability system, school counselors are expected to provide a programmatic approach that includes intervention strategies to fit the needs of all students. Although the intervention strategies such as guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and systems support meet these needs, there is little examination of the overall effects of school counseling or differing effects of typical activities or interventions used by school counselors. This study is designed to address the gap in school counseling research by quantitatively examining studies of school counseling interventions using meta-analytic techniques.
In the era of evidence base practices, the role of the school counselor has shifted dramatically. In today’s high stakes accountability system, school counselors are expected to provide a programmatic approach. These comprehensive school counseling programs must fit the needs of all students.
