AP Team and the Tagaytay Rendezvous
By: Maria Laurice E. Pelayo

The 25th of July 2014 dawned as an ordinary day for most of the teams in the Finance Shared Service (FISS) but the Accounts Payable team, under Ms. Hersie M. Andico, have taken their well-deserved break, laid down their thinking caps, and packed their bags for a day of adventure, excitement and fun at Gratchi’s in Tagaytay City.
Not your ordinary team building.
The day started out with hints of bad weather but the sun did shine despite the not-so-friendly weather forecasts for the day (as if Divine intervention took care of the imminent rain caused by some Low Pressure Area). Otherwise, who would’ve imagined the whole AP Team indulging themselves (under the beautiful sun rays that only Tagaytay could muster, that is) with outdoor activities such as Rope Challenge, Fishing, and Trekking?
Indeed, said activities brought out such enthusiasm from the team. Though the activities were undeniably physically challenging, the members of the AP Team proved themselves as equally determined to overcome the obstacles prepared for them and thus succeeded with flying colors (amidst gales of laughter, tons of sweat, and well--bits of bruises here and there). The experience definitely upgraded the definition of “adventurous” a notch higher for the AP Team and did cause the bond amongst the members to be strengthened further.
The Moves, the awards, the winners… After the action-packed activities concluded in the morning, the Accounts Payable Team then proceeded with the program prepared for their getaway. Said program was emceed by Ms. Ledivinia Rojas of ASEAN and EMEA team and consisted primarily of the highlights for the day: the GROUP DANCE contest and the awarding. Four groups battled it out with their sizzling and funky moves; each of the group allowed no favors and evidently showed no mercy. However, though each group has provided exemplary performance, Group 1 (led by Gerlie Bagares) emerged

As of now, those who don’t opt in for organ donation are presumed to not want to donate. “Presume content” is the name of the new proposal to change the original system. This policy would change the assumption to that people do prefer to donate their organs. If I am selected to attend the Air Force Academy Summer Seminar, I expect to be mimicking the daily mental and physical challenges that fourth-class cadets face each and every day. I anticipate long days, muscle fatigue, and a better understanding of not only the Air Force Academy, but of myself. I hope to reaffirm my aspirations of attending the Air Force Academy while instilling hard work and dedication. Every exercise, demand, and task that I am put through is working to make me a better person and a stronger leader. The academy will undoubtedly bring out the best in all of its participants. Every attendee will be introduced to a new physical and mental limit. Knocking boundaries down to build character, the cadets will strive to exceed…

This trip wasn’t like the others, it was a vacation compared to the other high adventure camps. We flew down to Miami and drove to the base, which was in the Florida Keys. The next day we took two warrior canoes, which were canoes the fit about seven people in each, and paddled five miles out to and island where we would stay for the next six days. Instead of hiking or climbing mountains, our trip consisted of tenting out on an island where we fished, snorkeled and kayaked for the next week. My favorite part about this trip was relaxing in a hammock for hours watching the tides change. This was a dramatic change from my two previous summers of hard labor and exhausting hiking and canoeing; but it taught me that hard work pays…

In week one and week two we covered a large amount of information that was interesting and some of us struggled understanding it. We discussed such topics as receivables, notes receivables, bonds, liabilities, unearned revenues, tangible and intangible assets, and various others. We all did not struggle on the same topics but not all the topics were as clear in the beginning of the week as they became later on as the readings and the weekly discussions.…

In 1787, a group of representatives from the 13 colonies met all together to discuss the Articles of Confederation’s weaknesses and to make a new Constitution. They disputed, debated, and talked about it for 4 months until they created the U.S. Constitution. In my essay, I will discuss some weaknesses in the Articles of Confederation and I will also discuss how they resolved it. I will also discuss some weaknesses that remained in the Constitution when it was passed.…

A fresh breeze blew and ruffled the grass at the Lake of the Woods golf course in Mahomet, Illinois. The leaves fell from the trees and drifted amongst the wind. As I hauled the unopened tent towards my destination, there was lots of chatter, as well as some excitement, but no one spoke of the possibility of success in the monumental task ahead. We set up the tent and waited. We were awaiting the moment that we would go to where they had specified the activity to begin, the moment where most of the team would receive the opportunity to attempt the task we had been striving forward to achieve for the last few months. Except for me, I would be required to stay there just to cheer for those who participate, unless someone became injured to the…

I had never considered myself an athletic person, but I was encouraged by my counselors and new friends to participate in volleyball, rock climbing, and archery. I eventually joined a volleyball team, and competed against another camp. I also was part of an a capella group with some of the older campers, and realized how much I love singing and harmonizing with others. Although I don’t still regularly participate in every activity that I tried at this camp, the experience of trying so many new activities in such a short amount of time has made me more adventurous and less risk…

Extreme sports are a phenomenon that are taking the world by storm, increasing in popularity and daring every year. One such sport is ‘wingsuit flying’, where a pilot wears a suit with material between the legs, arms and torso, which allows the pilot to glide at unimaginable speeds through the air; the speed record in a wingsuit is a colossal 363 kilometres per hour. One wingsuit flyer says that the most intense feeling you get is when you first step off the edge of the cliff, and that feeling combined with the chance to enjoy a flight over the countryside is why he and his fellow flyers love what they do. But is there more to these sports than meets the eye? Is there something deeper than getting an adrenaline rush?…
