Article Review
Make Management a true profession is an interesting article. It is written by two authors, Rakesh Khurana and Nitin Nohria. Rakesh Khurana is a professor of business administration at Harvard Business School in Boston while Nitin Nohria is also a professor of business administration and senior associate dean and director of faculty development at Harvard Business School. Both authors have written informative books on the subject of business. The purpose of this article is about revolutionizing the training of employees in management positions. To upholding them to a higher standard to curb unethical behavior and fraudulent activity. They want business management to be treated as a true profession such as lawyers and doctors, and that would mean holding them accountable for their actions by creating an independent group that would govern and oversee the management profession. The main theme of the article was the proposition of more required training (and continual training) by an independent group that would oversee management positions as a true profession. The authors feel that it is important because of all the failures of management in this day and age. Something needs to change but the debate is whether this is the right way. I absolutely believe that their needs to be change but strongly disagree that this would be the right way. The main points of this article is whether an oath should be required for the profession like doctors or lawyers, whether there should be a code that the profession should live by, and the greatest point is whether there should be an independent group to ‘control’ and oversee the profession. When reading this article the consistent argument that you will see made is that management is not treated like a true profession and that it should be. Creating an Oath would give a sense of responsibility and conviction for the management position. This in turn would ‘encourage’ the holders of this position to serve society rather
