Arts Village Mentor Reflection
If selected to be an RA, I anticipate balancing my course load and my position with residence life. I would have to drop my involvement with the Arts Village learning community and limit my participation with other organizations available on campus. I would prioritize my grades and my RA role first and foremost. If I have any additional time outside of these two commitments then I will indulge in other activities.

As an Arts Village mentor, I have experience with working with other students and balancing my academic and social life. This past semester has improved my time management skills. If given the position, I understand that my academics come first, my RA position second, and social life third. I plan to use my organizational skills

Throughout these organizations I am either serving as a mentor or using my media skills. For example, with Chapel Assistants I have the opportunity to help prepare for each chapel service but I also serve in the Media Ministry which is responsible for making CD’s for each service, mailing CDs to attendees, and being sure the speaker gets a copy of their sermon. I love the job because I truly get to build relationships with those that attend chapel. Within the Spotlight Network I am currently a reporter in which I report events that are going on campus. This year the Spotlight Network will have its own shows and I will serve as a reporter of the shows. With Howard Players I get work on my acting skills by attending workshops. Alternative Spring Break, was my chance to be able to spend an entire week Mentoring students at Normandy High School which is located in Ferguson Missouri. To this day I continue to mentor those students I met through email. In the Freshman Leadership Academy my freshman year all year I was taught to be a leader and even had the opportunity to travel to China and provide service. Because I am a sophomore I get to use the things I learn to help mentor a current freshman. Lastly, Matriculate is a recent organization that is affiliated with Howard’s campus in which through google hangout I mentor students in low income high school.…

I want to be your Resident Assistant because I am a very reliable and responsible person. This can be reflected from my previous work experience, working two jobs while in school and also participating in other extracurricular activities on campus and also out side. (i.e BAPS temple) I go to BAPS temple, located in Beltsville, every Sunday where we (group) teach young kids about Hinduism, morals, real life expectation, and school. I have had significant amount of work experience that involves a lot of communication and great customer service such as ice-cream server at Brusters, cashier at Hollister Co., Security at UMBC bookstore, and desk staff at Harbor hall which allowed me to expand my communication and public relation skills that one can not just learn by reading books on communication and relationships. I have always showed how motivated and enthusiastic I was to the customers and supervisors and earned their respect. As diverse as it is, UMBC will be a great start for working with different ethnic group students and will also give me more experience on diverse workspace. My views on diversity is very open and employable because outside of…

The resident advisor position is a unique and powerful position on any campus; but it is particularly appealing to me on Union’s campus. My first real connection with anyone outside of my AOP class, of which I spent a majority of the summer, with was my RA. On a campus so small and compact as Union, an RA is truly an invaluable resource to ask questions of. This is because not only can they answer them directly, but if they are unable to, they possess the resources to turn you to someone who could. My RA became the main point that I referred to for any question, and in the end became a close friend. Therefore, I believe the first appealing aspect about being an RA is the leadership opportunity and the…

The four most important aspects of my role as a peer tutor would be showing leadership, communication, flexibility and having a positive impact on students. Each of these aspects are important and all contribute to my role as a peer tutor, without any of them I don't think I would perform as well in the classroom. Showing leadership and having a positive impact on others have changed over the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester my leadership skills weren't as inclined as they currently are. Over the course of the semester, I have gained confidence and demonstrated leadership and initiative while peer tutoring. Also, I saw a change in how students approached me; they are presently more comfortable asking me questions in…

If given the opportunity to become an RA it would not be a position I would take for granted. While some scheduling and lifestyle changes may be necessary, I know that I could handle the new responsibilities. Over the three semesters I have been at school my schedule has changed significantly each new term to manage my obligations, whether those were classes, work, or campus clubs. I understand the importance of being available for my residents and it would be my first priority to be on hand if needed. While school work and personal time are always going to be part of a college student’s life, spending time in the dorms with my door open, for example, would allow me to combine being accessible and my other responsibilities. Like any job, sometimes…
