As A Kinesthetic Learner
Faith Onyilimba
Learning Style and Strategy As a kinesthetic learner, learning is based on physical activities instead of sitting and listening to lectures. Hands on method of learning are more efficient for a kinesthetic learner; they prefer to use their body and sense of touch in tackling a problem instead of reading through the instructions (Vark, 2014). Kinesthetic learners are also known as doers. They rather start doing an activity instead of thinking about initiating an action. They are usually very sensitive to their physical environment; they pay good attention to their physical environment and communicate with their body. Kinesthetic learners use hand gestures and body language as a form of communication. A kinesthetic learner absorbs information through applying what the information learned to real life examples. A kinesthetic learner tries an activity without contemplating on the consequences of failure. If the activity fails, a kinesthetic would try again until they get it right (Vark, 2014). Learning strategy is an individual’s method of learning and using information; their approach to acquiring information (Wikipedia, 2014). Different people may have a specific learning strategy that work out well for them, while others have a combination of different strategies working out equally well for them. Students who do not use or know the appropriate learning strategy often do not do as well those students who are conversant with their learning strategies. There are different learning strategies which includes; active learning, blended learning, just-in time learning, learner’s framework, formal and informal learning. The preferred learning strategy of a kinesthetic learner is the active learning strategy. Active learning involves being engaged in the instructional process by means of the following: exploring, analyzing, communicating, creating, reflecting, or actually using new information or experiences (Wikipedia, 2014). With these, the learning

When one thinks back to their childhood, they may remember the career they wanted to pursue but at the time didn’t know how they would achieve their lifelong goal. As time goes on one will educate themselves, learning the necessary aspects and skills of their soon to be profession. During this time in one’s life they probably never gave much thought to what type of learning style they most familiarized with. What exactly does it mean to learn? By definition, “It is the act or process of gaining knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something” (Merriam-Webster.com, 2014). In order to evaluate one’s learning style there are assessments that can be taken and several models to compare to for analysis. One assessment in particular is called VARK: a guide to learning styles and it can be used to assess an individual’s learning style. “VARK, which is used for learning information, is a four modality acronym that stands for the Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic” (Fleming, 2014). This paper will review each aspect of the evaluated learning style compared to the preferred learning strategies of such an individual and determine if any changes are needed to make learning accessible and more efficient.…

Learning can either be successful or not, depending on the approach and strategies used by the teacher. In order for the teacher to accommodate for students with learning disabilities, here she must use differentiated instruction and multilevel assessments. Not all students can learn or perform at the same level. One might suggest strategies or approaches, such as creating a syllabus allowing the students to know what will be covered and assignments that will be expected of them throughout the course. A calendar should accompany the syllabus to assist the visual learners. Technology could be used to present information, and to assess students. This method is especially helpful for a kinesthetic learner…

Problems can be solve. People can overcome problems by using their strengths. One way for some people to solve the problems is by using movements and motions to help them learn like in activities. Bodily kinesthetic is a intelligence to help you to do stuff in different activities like it helps you learn quicker by using motions and hand movements or for some people doing experiments to help you able to understand better. When you actually do something like an experiment, you now visually see it and know how it works and stuff. For example in math sometimes when I multiply, divide, subtract, or adding big numbers I could do it in my mind, but sometimes I get confused, so sometimes I check my answer by writing it on the paper just to make sure I get it right. When you use hand movements it helps to know and makes what you have learn leave in your brain.…

Preferred learning style is a multimodal learning style which includes all of the above mentioned four learning modes. First of all, visual learning strategies include looking at pictures, postures, slides, diagrams, graphs, flow charts, and underlining and highlighting the key words during learning. After the teaching session is over, a visual learner should recall visual images used during learning and should practice turning visual images into words again to be able to write if needed for examination. Secondly, Aural learning strategies include attending classes and then discussing with others to hear from them, attending tutorials, discussing topics with educators, using a tape recorder to record lecture and then listening to it, and reading notes aloud to hear then again in order to remember material. Third, Read/write learning strategies include writing and rewriting key words and ideas, making a new list from diagrams and graphs, reading notes silently over and over, and practicing examination by writing answers. Lastly, kinesthetic learning strategies include using all the senses to learn material via demonstration. It includes experimenting in laboratories, field trips to learn new ideas, listening to lecture which includes real…

A learning style is the way in which a person processes new information. In the learning system there are three main types of learning which are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. People may learn best by being taught with the three learning methods, but others may not. Visual learners are people who learn by seeing. These people learn more where there are images, graphs, diagrams, and colors involved. Visual learners are learners that first have to see what they are expected to know. Auditory learners learn best by hearing. Lastly, there is the kinesthetic learners, also known as tactile learners, those learners learn best by the physical activity. In a class the students’ way of learning might not be the way the professor…

During the VARK questionnaire that I took I scored an 11 on visual, aural, and read/write. The topic that I scored highest on was Kinesthetic and I scored a 12 on it. Kinesthetic is a learning tool that is hands-on approach. People that are kinesthetic are easily distracted by the activity that is going on. The difficult approach towards it would be sitting still for an amount of time, such as a lecture. I believe that Kinesthetic is a perfect fit for me because I believe that I do better when I’m doing hands-on. It is also hard for me to sit in class for a long time because I get bored just listening to the teacher talk for an hour or longer, but I do still take notes in lectures because I’m used to bulletpoints while sitting in a lecture.…

In order to ensure that you are meeting individual’s needs you will have to understand learning strategies. These are visual, auditory and kinaesthetic (VAK) learning styles, designed by Honey and Mumford, and based on a theory first established by David Kolb. Honey and Mumford designed a Learning Styles Questionnaire (LSQ) which helps identify learning needs. Examples of Visual learning techniques, use cards, posters, prompt sheets, display tasks on boards, supplement verbal exposition with pictures and diagrams etc. Auditory learning techniques, talk through ideas, ask questions and listen to learners. Kinaesthetic learning techniques, use breaks to get learners moving, locate different activities in different parts of the room, use role play or practical activities etc. You may encounter learners that have a higher sensitivity to kinaesthetic learning, than either visual or auditory. The LSQ is recommended if you are to successfully identify the learning needs of your students, and design a scheme of work that differentiates each individual…
