Asos Political Factors
The political factors associated with ASOS are based around VAT, tax policies and government stability. Firstly, the VAT can increase depending on the political party in power at the time, this means that the price of clothing for ASOS would need to be higher. To keep the clothing prices reasonable, ASOS would have to take into consideration the VAT and make sure that the customers stay happy so that the business can continue to thrive. In addition to this, the government has recently made plans to cancel student maintenance grants which are non-repayable, it is to help cover living and studying costs. If these grants were to be taken away then that would mean more students would have less money to spend on clothes. Lastly, the World Trade Organisation (WTO), is the only international organisation that deals with international agreements to help importers and exporters as well as producers of goods and services to conduct their businesses. Online purchasing for men has increased from 57% in 2008 to 77% in 2016 and the percentage of women buying online has increased from 49% in 2008 to 75% in 2015. This shows a clear increase of online purchasing for both genders. Over the years, internet shopping has become increasingly more attractive for men as many men do not want to physically go out to shop for clothing as it is predominately a female passion, so the introduction of online shopping has aided men to stay up to date with fashion from the comfort of their own homes. Customers are also becoming increasingly more aware of the ethical side of shopping, such as if those making the clothing are being treated well; because of this, many online companies such as ASOS are making sure that the consumer knows how their clothing is being
