1.2 Review the benefits and limitations of resources in the delivery of inclusive learning and teaching
The Oxford dictionary online defines the word resource as, “A stock or supply of money, materials, staff, and other assets that can be drawn on by a person or organization in order to function effectively”. This means that resources are an integral part of any organization that enables it to function effectively. If we apply this definition to teaching and learning resources, it can be argued that resources are central to the learning process and an absolute necessity for the teacher in planning and delivering effective sessions and the learner in achieving their learning targets.
Inclusive learning and teaching resources are any physical or virtual entity or anything used to help gain full understand during a session with all learners involved, treated equally and fairly and not directly or indirectly excluded for any reason, Gravells (2012: 49). Also, according to Wilson (2008:296), inclusion simply means ‘available to all’. Tummons (2010: 93) states inclusive practice as an approach to teaching and learning that endeavours the fullest participation of learners.
With the resources available today for use in the classroom, such as interactive software, digital imaging, audio and video creation tools, on-demand video libraries, computers and LCD projectors, and Web 2.0 tools, the hardest job may be choosing which tool to use and how to integrate it into the classroom. This is a great advantage for teachers today because learning technology is changing at an exponential rate, and our students can thrive with it. (Improving Classroom Learning, Eduviews, 2013)
