Assignment 2: A Case And PRSA Code Of Ethics
1) When looking at this case and PRSA Code of Ethics there are a few values that apply. The first one being honesty, “We adhere to the highest standards of accuracy and truth… (Swann 575).” When Ryan talks about how deceiving the news media goes against good media relations. Being honest in PR is how you are able to keep your public happy. Another code is Expertise when they mention how it is fair for the government to communicate via press release, however to not have someone fake be a journalist.
2) The publicity and propaganda prohibition is in full affect because Medicare had Karen Ryan seem she was not an actual journalist and that the whole situation was not a publicity stunt. That in however Ryan is a journalist and that she was not
used to gather more publicity.
3) Legitimate governmental information is when they provide correct and acute information to the public. That there are no ethical values broken and the facts are researched and all there. By announcing the video is from them they are giving out legitimate governmental information. While improper governmental advocacy is when a PR professional becomes just an advocate for what the government is doing. In this case that’s what Karen Ryan did when she spoke for medicare.
