The aging populations are becoming more diverse in terms of color, culture, disability and socio-economic standing. From the reading articles and powerpoint, I learned about many facts about diversity in ageing this week and the three most important facts were first the number women aged 65 years or older is larger than men and about 1.3 million women live in nursing homes. Women also comprise the majority of Medicare beneficiaries, because they are more likely to experience disabling effects of multiple chronic conditions. In addition about 39% of older women live alone for nearly one third of life, because older women have fewer opportunity to remarry than male peers, and the disproportionate number of women compared to men. Secondly, the LGBT elders 55 years and older are estimated at 3 million, and projected to be 4 million in 10 years by SAGE. I was shocked by the …show more content…
The four important steps provided in the toolkit are Assessments, Identifying Resources About the Community, Designing Services, and Program Evaluation. While designing my assisted living community, I used the four steps process to create a plan that will focus on the housing needs of aging adults related to location, affordability and independence, because the number of baby boomers is expected to increase in few years and if nothing is done now, many seniors will have to move and separate from their families to find affordable housing. In addition, It will provide social and communal benefits that are more ethnically and racially diverse for our seniors and generations to come, because needs among seniors depends on many factors such as health and care needed, culture, financial means, lifestyle…etc. Finally, there will be routine evaluations within the community that will help identify issues and allow for

    We all will one day face the reality of growing older. There are many aspects of this change that will affect us in a large way. According to the Merck Manual of Health and Aging, 1.5% of Americans are 85 or older. This research states that the number of people 100 years or older could rise from 1 out of 5,578 in the year 2000, to 1 out of 472 in the year 2050.
