Athletes Are Overpaid
Do you think that athletes are overpaid? Well I believe that athletes are much overpaid. People, such as doctors and teachers, are not even close to being paid as much as athletes. For example, teachers teach students how to read, write, and speak. All some athletes do would be throwing a ball into a hoop, and they make a fortune. What a waste of money! They have so much; they do not even know what to do with it. Athletes should never be paid millions of dollars. To begin with, people who have saved people’s lives, or people who teach them the important things in life, never get paid millions of dollars. Most teachers make an annual salary of $56,310 a year. Kobe makes per shot during basketball games. What is the point of paying athletes something everyone …show more content…
They tend to have more money than they could use for their use. The just buy luxuries such as twenty cars and seven houses with thirty different rooms. Most athletes make 20 million to 2 billion dollars. Some people actually need to make money, yet instead of athletes allowing the loss of some money, they throw a tantrum. I can name the last time athletes gave to the poor. It is unfair for those who need the money.
Furthermore, most of the things that athletes do are a waste of time. They make millions of dollars just to do things like running in circles on a track. I could do that all day long, but I do not get paid millions of dollars. So, why is all of this important? They are just doing a hobby they love. Yet, they end up with an abundance of money. Although I understand your reasoning, soldiers in the army take more risks to protect our country. All athletes do is “entertain us.” While soldiers make about $8000, athletes make about 2 billion dollars. The athletes should only make $3000, at most. Moreover, they should only be getting health insurance temporarily free. Take some money out of their salary and use that to pay it off during the sport

The first reason why athletes should not get paid is because they already get free things from their sponsors to their fans. “The NCAA athletes get paid with psychology classes, track suits, knee braces, and ice baths.” This proves that the athletes get free stuff some of it that they don’t even use. Also the more popular you get the more fans you have and more sponsorship you have which means more money/gifts.…

So how much do athletes receive a year, the top 10 paid athletes total pay added up is just less than 1 billion dollars. 1 billion dollars spent on 10 people this is just too much. To illustrate this, with the money the water project could buy 83,300 water points for people in Africa with lack of clean and safe water. In addition to that could also supply 1,000,000,000 dollars worth of food for starving Africans, or 1,000,000,000 dollars worth of school supplies. This could create a enormous difference to children all over the world.…

Another reason is the fact that athletes develop massive egos. As said in the article “Do professional athletes get paid too much” Hjelm says that “During the NBA lockout of 1998-99 players were crying poverty (Hjelm 11).” Hjelm also said “Kenny Anderson, then a guard for the Boston Celtics, complained of not being able to afford insurance on his eight cars (Hjelm 12).” This proves that athletes become whiny little brats when they get these huge paychecks. The sport industry is one of the largest industries in the United States, meaning it brings in the most revenue. But, aren’t the players actually the ones bringing the money in? The spectators are paying a big amount of money for their tickets and not to mention paying even more on foods, drinks and sporting attire. Since athletes are bringing in almost $11 billion a year, it is only fair to pay them. Being a part of such a large industry, people expect athletes to perform as professional athletes do. High expectations mean athletes have to be committed and willing to put in the long time consuming hours and hard work. This is an all day everyday commitment that leaves you with no free time or anytime at all to go out and get a job so that you can support yourself. People say it is only fair that college athletes get paid so that they can make a living and support their self.…

I feel that Pro Athletes should not be making all this money, they make multi millions just to play a sport. What could they do with all this money? People risking their lives every day aren’t even close to making as much money as they should be making, and an example would be the military, police, or firefighters. Some athletes don’t even “work” for very long. There are thousands of athletes playing for different colleges. They put their time and effort in it, yet they don’t get paid. Athletes can make money for their coaches, schools, and sponsors, but not for themselves (Eitzen). Others believe college athletes should be compensated because of their vital role in the arena of professional athletics. They are the next LeBron James, or Peyton Manning, and deserve to be compensated as such for their hard work and dedication to their respective sport. The average amount of time college athletes spend practicing, playing, and training for their respective sport is somewhere between 40 and 50 hours a week, which is comparable to a full time job. This doesn't include the time they are required to spend on academics. College athletes deserve to be compensated due to the injustice of amateurism, their role in professional athletics, and the amount of time they spend on their respective…

The premiere athletes of today’s sports can make upwards of 30 millions dollars in one year. This alone can raise some eyebrows. Now take into account that this amount of money is 75 times as much money as the President of the United States made last year. The President, by their pay, is less important than an athlete, like a LeBron James, but this couldn’t be any further from the truth. Compared to an actual beneficial job, like teaching, the athletes we gladly shell out millions of dollars for are very overpaid.…
